ABUSE OF POWER BY THE DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER

It’s out in the open now – in MalaysiaToday, Malaysiakini, and Malaysian Insider, this is the content of the email that has been circulating and the string of sms-es inside:

Did Najib Tun Razak interfered in the Altantuya case and tried to help his friend Razak Baginda escape the gallows? Read the article  and sms-es inside and YOU decide.

The following text message correspondence is between YAB Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak, Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, and Dato’ Shafee Abdullah, a Malaysian lawyer who initially represented Abdul Razak Abdullah Baginda who is on trial for abeting the murder of Mongolian national, Altantuya Shaariibuu.

While it does not answer lingering questions about Najib’s alleged past relations with Altantuya, the text messages show clearly Najib’s active intereference in the case very early on.

The messages highlight Najib’s willingness to speak with both members of the Attorney General’s Chambers and Inspector General of Police about the case, something that suggests an abuse of executive power.

What is particularly revealing and troubling is that the counsel, Shafee, keeps asking Najib for details indicating some political intervention that may have influenced the case.

This observation is strengthened by Najib’s message to Shafee on 16 November 2006: “Pls do not say anything to the press today. i will explain later. RB will have to face a tentative charge but all is not lost.”

This message raises a lot of questions about Najib’s role in this case. Why did he mention “tentative” charge and that “all is not lost” for RB (Razak Baginda)? How would Najib know this before Razak was charged? Is there already a deal in place that will see Razak aquitted? These are important questions which will have ramifications not just on this case but far beyond.

The text messages were transmitted between Najib’s personal mobile phone (+6012 2143177) and Shafee’s mobile phone (+6012 3257052).

Those who seek the truth should challenge Najib and Shafee to deny that this correspondence took place between them. Perhaps a record of the messages still resides in the server of the relevant telecommunications company.

The truth is buried somewhere. Those who know what truly happened hope that the truth has been buried deep with Altantuya. But the funny thing is, the truth always finds its way into the hands of those who fight for justice – sometimes in the most mysterious circumstances.

Inside are the sms-es purportedly sent between the two: Najib and Shafee:

3 things can happen.Firstly, they can ask for more time for detention. We will resist.Second, they have to release him by Friday or thirdly charge him by Friday.Police took him to his office for document search.Nothing incriminating found. Now they are recording stmt from him.Later search in house.Under control so far Dato Seri. Dato Seri, Negotiating for conditional release. If not police need 2 or 3 more days extention.I suspect its an exercise in public relation as they do not want public to think a VIP was given an easier time.Being a vip under these conditions is a liability.Otherwise we are on track according to plan. S2N
Date: 11/11/2006 08:58:14
Police should release him by then except that I think the police is disturbeb by Media and public pressure.Other factors need be coomunicated to Dato Seri in person. Investigation wise we are on track for release.

S2N
Date: 11/11/2006 09:26:52
It is clear that the Police will ask for extention t’row.I will resist strongly in view of the fact that the last few days investigation on RB have completed investigations that require RB’s presence in custody.Secondly, from yesterday the Police has done nothing much with him except to do the dna.Thirdly, I am concerned with the Police carelessness yesterday in allowing the 3 other suspects to be freely mixing and therefore tainting their subsequent stmnts as they could be ‘group coached’.But it also show Police no longer need to isolate the suspects.Even RB was handcuffed to the C/I. Dato Seri, Got some info that are troubling.Quite serious. Are you in Taman Duta? Can we meet? Salam, Shafee

According to Malaysian Insider:

Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and the Opposition have tried to link Najib and his wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, with the murder since it happened in October 2006.

Najib has furiously denied any involvement with the case, and has even sworn in a mosque that he did not know the woman. His wife has also sought recourse in the courts to clear her name.

Their nemesis has been Raja Petra. He published many reports and commentaries alleging a cover-up in the investigation of the murder. He was detained under the Internal Security Act for allegedly publishing articles which were blasphemous.

UMNO members and in particular the Delegates in the Bahagian2 don’t give a hoot about these allegations.

As far as they are concerned, UMNO members rather elect such persons than to elect decent, honourable and good able Muslims as their leaders.

Good Muslim leaders cannot help spread the wealth of the taxpayers money to UMNO members.

    Sekadar memberi pendapat.

I think all this is up to some foreign government to help. I have little doubt that somebody out there has got some evidence that will prove whether Najib is guilty or innocent.

Regardless, there is so much doubt over Najib’s innocence that how can anybody support him to the country’s next PM???

It boggles my mind. I any other country these sort of “smudge on a person’s character” is already enough to put the candidate out of any leadership challenge.

And don’t forget the Saiful episode, the one day “I don’t know that fellow” statement and next day admit he meet Saiful to discuss his “scholarship” issue.

    Najib….you are a bloody liar !!!!

16/11/2006 the day RB was charged the wife said, ‘“He is a good man. He is not the Prime Minister of this country. He doesn’t want to be one. “He is not interested in all that,” she said during an outburst in court before Abdul Razak was charged yesterday.

So if AAB is a lame duck, Najis shall surely end up with a whole flock of QUACKS!!

  17. paki says:

I don’t see anything wrong with the sms content. It just show a friend whose concerned with the wellbeing of a friend in distress. He’s the country’s no two yes. With immense volume of influence, definately. But i don’t see how showing care is an abuse of power, let alone an obstruction of justice. The case is still ongoing, is it. And the last time i read, the accused is still in custody.

If truly he’s concerned about his position, would it be easier for him to say, “your problem is your problem, it doesn’t concerned me..” and stay outside the trouble. I can understand if people hate his or his party members political stand. But for having the heart and care for a friend in trouble? How low is that.

I would say of all the bad reputation his getting, this is a shining jewel. Is it not showing care is akin to compassion and love. If i have to choose a leader. This is one of the quality that will surely win me. Who would want an emotionless robot that rigidly cling himself to protocols.

  18. MALAYSIA BOLEH says:

    Taikohtai,

The only chance for AAB’ vengeance against the UMNO warlords who betrayed and axed him is to expose Najib as Mahathir threatened Anwar in 1998 -with resignation or sacking (with both subjected to police arrest) which is the same thing.

Hope he will spill the beans on him before he leaves for the sake of the rakyat and country. We cant have someone with such heavy evil and dirty baggages upon him.
Keep up the pressure and investigation on this hippo.
    God save the country.

if u believe so…the author should lodge a report to police..
am quite fed up with bloggers recently…
main hantam saja story…..but none dare to rpt to police..

  50. kopi kau kau says:

You all are dead wrong about Najis….. You see he is a kind-hearted Leader who always have the raykat’s problem in his heart.

When Saiful look up for him for help, He willing extended his help… so please don’t blame him when he is helping is own friend ‘Razak’ ….. as the saying…’A friend in need is a friend in deed’.

Now you all have his Handphone no. …. If you don’t believe me, call him… his assistant will answer the call and will help you accordingly to your needs.

I have just gotten my request granted and I am ever grateful to him….. ‘Najis boleh’…..

  51. avvit says:

I don’t see anything wrong or incriminating with these texts? Correct me if I’m wrong, but the DPM appears to be asking about the welfare of his friend more than anything.

  52. avvit says:

Susan Loone why the headline (CONTROVERSIAL SMS-ES)??? You seem to really wanna influence your readers into thinking and looking for something that’s not even there.

  53. just think that it’s too easy for sloone to trust the source of this smses…

it’s important not to pick something that is not from a reliable source. your credibility might go down with that too..

owh, sorry anything that you could do to bring down an opponent, you will do..

hmm, i heard that somewhere, hmm maybe in Machiavellian piece of article or books.. I don’t know..

  54. Harman Amri says:

Two possibilities. One, the set of SMS messages is an elaborate script written up by an enemy/enemies of Najib. Two, they were genuine.
If faked, the two would have jumped up by now to deny the “dialogue”. Their tardiness to do so indicates that it is genuine.
The next question is, who is the whistleblower? An employee of Maxis? (Both phones are 012 numbers) The police? The prosecutors?

My hunch is, the police and the prosecutors already know the truth about the Altantuya murder. And I suspect at least two foreign governments are already in possession of vital vidence related to the case — the French and the Singaporeans.. The French government must already know about Altantuya’s role as interpreter for the Malaysians in concluding the Scopene submarine deal with the French government and whether she and Najib were seen together at any time in Paris. The Singaporeans must already know if Altantuya, Razak Baginda and Najib were in Singapore at the same time to attend an exhibition as mentioned in Bala’s SD. But these governments are holding on to these information for their own advantage if Najib ends up as Prime Minister of Malaysia.

    Boy, are’nt we screwed!!!

  55. Granma says:

Yes Yes. Even the most loved and successful PM of Malaysia, the son of an Ulamak, Ahmad Abdullah Badawi has told everyone to forget about Altanyuya`s murder. Who was she? Just another nobody. Forget about her. She was nothing.
AAB says Najib is a good man nd he will be great for M`sia – especially after he becomes a PM and goes after all those “pendatang” and the PAS rowdies. Even that rascal Anwar Ibrahim had better make plans to migrate or he`ll be in prison till ke is kaput.

    hang percaya sama polis ke?

    kes norita samsudin, siapa pembunuhnya?

  57. daffodill says:

RB started fasting ever since the first day he was in prison. He won’t stop fasting until he is released. He talked about God more and more. Now he never miss his prayers..

Najib go to hell…. u r the GREATEST MUNAFIQ IN THE WHOLE WORLD AND OVER !!

Same goes to Anwar. He is another MUNAFIQ.

Sloone, get ur facts right about Anwar. You should try to have connections with Umi Hafilda, be a responsible blogger ok. She lives in the same condo WITH the late Norita Shamsuddin.

The ghost of Norita have been haunting the condo all these while, most of the occupants left, but not Umi. She is one BRAVE lady.

To tell you the truth I was an ex-KEADILAN fanatic, until I knew the truth about Anwar.

    GO TO HELL ANWAR !!

  58. mgs1 says:

i doubt these smss were genuine. I just cant see N checking n sending tht many sms. easier just to call via landline. The sms replying styles were more akin to an 18 yo school girl whose texting comes as second nature.
but it makes a nice read. some1 has gt too much time in his hands!

  59. alirustamsufi says:

Najib better than 18 year old schoolgirl lah. He only 18 year old schoolboy but can control all the other children in umno.

  60. Of course It is no secret that Razak Baginda and Najib are good friends, the transcript (if true ) prves Najibs concern,
I however notice that 4 parts of the transcript raises concerns of inteference when looked at objectively.
    (In brackets are my concerns)

    N2S Date: 8/11/2006 21:06:11
–> I have spoken to IGP. U can represent n meet RB in court.

(interference in an ongoing police investigation)

    N2S Date: 16/11/2006 10:53:50
–> Pls do not say anything to the press today. i will explain later. RB will have to face a tentative charge but all is not lost.

(withholding info from the press while creating political spin, that was the same time ASP Tony Lungan called Bala by then exPI
for Razak baginda to question him on what he knew, this line also smacks of political inteference)

    S2N Date: 17/11/2006 12:57:49
–> Dato Seri, Razak has not been sent to Hospital. He is clearly not well.He is refusing to take Prison’s medicine for fear of sabourtage. The chief Physician of GHKL Dato Dr Jaya Sinnadurai is shocked that they have not brought Razak back to GHKL.I have spoken to Haji Darussalam,Sg Buloh’s Prison Director. Can You sound this to Dato Radzi Shek Ahmad?Need to see you of s’thing that I think had happened that led to her death.Utterly shocking if I am right. Shafee

(Dato Radzi Sheikh Ahmad was the Home affairs minister at the time-that means that Shafee requested Najibs inteference to put pressure on the Prisons Director,
and as you can see in the next sms he was very cooperative as attested by Shafee in the next sms)

    Friday 17/11/2006

    S2N Date: 17/11/2006 10:50:30

–> Dato Seri, Its important you speak toYusoff Zainal Abidin as he knows the law a lot better in the Chambers.I am confident he is concerned with the negligible evidence agst Razak. The Raja Mahani and Tengku Ariston cases ought to be the guiding critera for AG.They cannot afford another scandallous loss by the Prosecution as in Norita, Ariston,Dato Balwant etc.

(The defence asking DPM to ask DPP Yusoff Zainal Abidin, who is well known for playing badminton with a certain judge, to engineer a dismissal of the case on a technicality citing 3 precedents)

I have no faith whatsoever that this will be investigated thoroughly, Najib is likely to deny it, after a long silence and while gathereing political spin,
come out with some nonsensical counter claim, the the police will obediently trace the source of the sms leakage, come up with some crap threat
about taking action against bloggers who publish the transcript on their blogs etc.
Or maxis will announce that the data does not exist, hey if immigration records can be wiped out, what more telco records.
One thing though , in the next general elaction, the opposition will not be short of issues to give voters reasons not to vote BN.
You can manipulate laws, police, judiciary do what you like but you will never escape the wrath of the people at the ballot box.

  64. Siew Eng says:

    Susan, I stand corrected!

Super-busy and -rich men like the DPM and the Suhakam commissioner/UMNO lawyer do sms like the rest of us who cannot afford to make calls more than necessary a month!

Najib admitted the smses were real!

But this unveils another contentious issue – breach of privacy.

  65. hutchrun says:

Breach of privacy? Najib can sue the telco.

Now what about his “abuse of power”. DSAI went to prison for telling the cops to speed up investigations.
Najib is in direct touch with the IGP on the RB matter. It`s the same and Najib should go in for at least 6 years – or do we need a Royal Commission to establish the truth first.

  66. wits0 says:

Indeed, to maintain his credibility and privacy, mustn’t he sue the telco? After all he has implicitly admitted that they were real. Also that’s how things are done here – get the whistle blowers and the whole case is solved!
