I am not sure why The STAR has done this. In its print report today (page N12: Zahrain floats plan for independent caucus, para. 10), it says that Bayan Baru PKR Youth chief Ahmad Azrizal Tahir walked in to hand ex-PKR/non-BN friendly independent MP Mohd. Zahrain Hashim a memorandum containing 25,000-30,000 signatures of constituents in the state seat seeking the MP’s resignation as their Parliamentarian.
Shocking! That figure is about the same or more than the number of votes Zahrain obtained in the 2008 general elections!
I’ve checked with two PKR reps – Pantai Jerejak state assembly person Sim Tze Tsin and Bayan Baru deputy Youth chief ZulFadzli; both told me the petition which was submitted to Zahrain yesterday at the Dewan Tabung Haji, Bayan Lepas, was endorsed by 2,108 constituents ONLY-lah!
The signatures were collected in two days from the Bayan Baru market and Tapak Pesta area in Sungai Nibong. The petition calls for the MPs resignation, saying they felt ‘cheated’ when he quit PKR.
Hmmm….What is The STAR trying to tell us? It would be interesting to know…
Anyway, check out my story on Malaysiakini: Bayan Baru constituents demand Zahrain to vacate seat.
Ps. If you are wondering, I’ve returned to Malaysia for good. I’ve rejoined Malaysiakini.com, too, and start officially my duties as Senior Journalist on Monday, 15 March. Hope to see you around!
