Wow! Zunar will be a millionaire soon!
Nevermind that the Home Mnistry seize copies of his political-satire magazine “Gedung Kartun” today.
Nevermind that the ministry official says Zunar published this copy without a permit. Zunar says he has been granted a written approval.
Zunar must thank these officials for the free publicity.
Already my friends from overseas are asking me where to buy his book.
Isn’t that cool?

Scavengers, useless, lazy KDN people now will be sitting and laughing whole day instead of working.
jadi sesiapa yang belum membeli majalah ini, cepat dapatkan segera, mana tau sebelum kehabisan stok akibat dirampas KDN

Semalam lagi dah jadi kelam kabut, apa punya wayang tah. Masa nak bawa kartika pi penjara wanita Kajang, tetiba kensel kononnya atas arahan dari Peguam Negara. Hukuman ditangguhkan kerana alasan Peguam Negara untuk menghormati bulan Ramadhan.
Macamla Peguam Negara tak dak kalendar di opis dia. Sampaikan tarikh hukuman yang jatuh bulan Ramadhan pun tak tau. Tahan la awai2, tak la nampak lain macam saja.
Tup, tup.. hari ni, Datuk Hishamudin Menteri jaga dalam negeri pulak kata hukuman itu dibatalkan kerana di penjara tak dak tukang sebat terlatih terutama berkaitan ngan hukuman syariah.
Ehhh…Mana satu yang betul ni?
Brilliant. I need to get my own copy then. I used to put up his comics on my blog.

KUALA LUMPUR, 25 Aug 2009: The High Court (Appelate and Special Powers Division) here today allowed an application by Sisters in Islam (SIS) for a judicial review of a book which the government banned.
Judicial Commissioner Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof made the order after listening to arguments by senior federal counsel Noor Hishamuddin Ismail who was representing then Home Minister Tan Sri Syed Hamid Albar and counsel K Shanmuga who was representing SIS.
Mohamad Ariff fixed 28 Oct for hearing of the application.
SIS Forum (Malaysia) had on 15 Dec last year applied for a judicial review of an order by the Home Minister banning a book titled “Muslim Women and the Challenge of Islamic Extremism” which was published by SIS in 2005.

I want a copy. I will definitely get 1. If I can’t buy it at the bookstore, or underground, I probably will consider to get 1 online. Thanks to commentator “habislah”. 😉 How much per magazine?
I miss those jokers (comments) in TMP. Sometimes they make me cry in laughter. I have found one here that made me laugh out very loud over the mention of ‘mohaiteen’. Oh dear, I know what it means and who that damn person is. Congratulations to PAS/PR.

🙂
Now, what can the censors of the Ancien Regime do about this?
I always love his cartoon. Better than the stale stuff by Lat.
Why can’t they “understand” that’s its only just for laughs..?????
Where’s our freedom of speech, our rights & so forth…????
Where as in overseas they even make movies “just for laughs” about the cops, goverment, military, etc, etc……
They even make serious & true stories movies about the cops, goverment, military, etc, etc…………..
So..! What’s the issue..!!!
“”Siapa yang makan chili padi, dia yang rasa pedas…!!!””
Betul kan…………………..!

Malaysian activists condemn raid on political magazine
Media rights campaigners on Wednesday condemned the seizure of hundreds of copies of a new political cartoon magazine and a raid on its offices, saying it was an assault on free speech.
Home ministry officials on Tuesday confiscated 408 copies of the inaugural issue of “Gedung Kartun” shortly after the bi-weekly magazine hit the newsstands, the editor and a ministry official told AFP.
Zainal Abidin Othman, the home ministry’s chief enforcement officer in central Selangor state, said the magazine was confiscated because it has not yet received an official permit under Malaysia’s strict media licensing scheme.
However, editor Zulkiflee Anwar Ulhaque disputed that claim and said the seizure of the inaugural edition — which had a caricature of Prime Minister Najib Razak on the front cover — was politically motivated.
“Our permit was approved two weeks ago. We were told of the decision verbally and given the permit serial number, we are just waiting for the official letter,” he told AFP.
The caricature linked the premier to the sensational 2006 murder of a Mongolian model who was the lover of his former adviser — a case in which Najib has repeatedly denied any involvement or knowledge.
The publication also carried cartoons on the recent mysterious death of a political aide to an opposition legislator, as well as a crackdown on a massive rally against controversial internal security laws.
“This is politically motivated… I don’t think (Najib) practises what he preaches when he said media should be given more freedom,” Zulkiflee said.
Media watchdogs Centre for Independent Journalism and Writers Alliance for Media Independence condemned the move, saying it showed the government was using licensing laws to “arbitrarily” curb freedom of expression.
“The confiscation smacks of harassment and censorship of discussion of current issues,” the groups said in a joint statement.
Reporters Without Borders ranks Malaysia 132 out of 173 on its global press freedom index, and says the government-linked mainstream media are “often compelled to ignore or to play down the many events organised by the opposition.”
