Sorry folks, for so much inactivity with regards to this blog. I am with mum and there are domestic issues to deal with. But I am leaving you this – a collection of some photos I took in Bangkok, as Christmas draws near.

Wishing all of you, Season’s Greetings, Merry Christmas and a Very Happy New Year! I guess blogging will be scarce these few days. But I am not gone.I am still watching, and waiting ….and praying.

By the way, will the Home Ministry please grant the HERALD a license to publish – a Christmas gift for freedom of speech?

I guess not, huh? But I’ll be praying, still…

From The New Straits Times:

KUALA LUMPUR: Catholic weekly The Herald may have to stop publication as its publishing permit, which expires at the end of the month, has still not been renewed.

The weekly, recently the subject of controversy over the use of the word ‘Allah’ in its content, needs to have the permit renewed by Dec 31 to continue operations next year.

Its editor, Father Lawrence Andrew, said the paper’s licence was usually renewed three months before the deadline.

However, this year, the Home Ministry has yet to renew the permit although The Herald applied for a renewal earlier than it usually does.

“We expected difficulties, so we applied in July. There should be no reason for the delay,” said Lawrence.

“The government said it was still reviewing our licence. But we are now at the tail-end of the year. I must let people know what is going on.”

On the paper’s use of the word “Allah”, he said: “The issue is in the courts.”

Deputy Home Minister Datuk Wan Ahmad Farid Wan Salleh, in an interview with Reuters yesterday, said the government was “still reviewing” The Herald’s licence and was following “due process”.

“Until Dec 31, we are not going to announce anything. There is plenty of time. Let them wait.”

However, Lawrence is optimistic about the publication’s chances of operating again although warning letters from the ministry don’t bode well for the future.

“In their letters, they say that what we write can be a threat to national security. But issues like the economic and food crises are also ethical things which affect families and faith.”

Asked if The Herald would “tone down” if its licence was renewed, he said: “We are not being adamant or stubborn, but when there is a food or economic crisis, how can we tone down?

“We wrote about the fuel prices and asked people to pray that it would go down. And it did. What’s wrong with that?”

Asked whether it was The Herald’s editorial slant that was the problem, Lawrence said he was not sure.

“Our paper is only sold in churches. We don’t sell it to vendors or Muslims. They cannot prevent us from educating our people and expanding their faith.”

He said if The Herald’s publishing permit was not renewed, he would leave the matter to Archbishop of Kuala Lumpur Tan Sri Murphy Pakiam to decide.

The Herald has a readership of about 14,000 nationwide.

It’s bad faith. Herald sued the Malaysian Government against barring the etymology of the word “Allah” which Herald refer to. That ethereal pronunciation was used by Christian scholars worldwide and Indonesia seems to have it that way.

So, what’s wrong with that, promoting “Allah”?.

Insya Allah. syukur Alhamdulillah, what’s wrong with that? What’s wrong with that? And what’s wrong with my message which was still unpublished at FSZ since yesterday??????????

It is lamentable to learn that the Herald, a weekly Catholics’ Newsletter published by the Archdiocese of Kuala Lumpur, is being left in suspense and tenterhook by the Home Ministry’s undue delay in renewing its KDN for the coming year.

Last Sunday, I picked up a copy of the Herald with the foreboding feeling that come next week I would probably be seeing the last issue of the Herald.

The excuse given by the Home Ministry, as I read in the dailies, was lame in that there were too many renewal applications to be vetted through despite renewal application was submitted six months in advance.

In my view, the undue delay as most regular readers and subscribers already know, is attributed to the following probable causes:

    1) Usage of the term “Allah” for “Almighty God” in some of its issues; and,

    2) The impending Court Case challenging the authorities in their attempts to stop Herald and publications from other religions from using the said term – a term purportedly intended for the exclusive use of Islamic religion.

It is obviously very unfair for the Home Ministry to withhold the KDN renewal for any publication until the last day of December. Can’t the officers there realise that to publish an issue, it requires proper advance planning? News has to collated, vetted and edited. Layout design for advertisements, articles and news have to be planned for. Time for printing, trimming, binding and distribution has to be provided for.

The Government through the incompetent Home Ministry cannot claim exclusive proprietary right of the term “Allah” as it had been used and could be proven that it was used way before Islam came into existence.

The term “Allah” can be found in the Arabic Text of the Christian Bible to denote the “Almighty God”. Besides, it is used by other religions as well.

The interpretation is now in the Civil Court, which is the competent authority to interpret and decide whether Christians and the faithful from other religions can continue to use the term Allah for the Almighty God to whom they pray and worship.

Come on, Minister of Home Affairs, let not emotion and prejudice cloud your judgment. Using the term “Allah” does not affect nor enhance one’s religiosity or spirituality.

It must be realized that it is the extent to which The Word of the Almighty God or Allah is acquired, obeyed and practiced that is crucial in one’s salvific journey of faith in establishing one’s unique relationship with the Almighty God, Allah, The God of All in All.

I just cannot see how justice can be done for those innocent employees who depend for their livelihood on the production and distribution of Herald being given the retrenchment notice at the last minute during this period of joy, happiness and festivity.

Aiyo! Sloone! You otak tak center kah? If you want anything from the Umno-putras, if you to give them big ang pow, else don’t waste your time.

This construes that if Heralds want their license back, they have to give the Umnoputras in the Kampong-Attap-Home Office a big Christmas present.

Hense Heralds will kick start the Niagara-pour of Christmas presents to the Kampong-Attap-Home Office come this Christmas Day.

    Anyhow, sloone, wishing…

“WISHING YOU AND YOUR FAMILY A BLESSED CHRISTMAS

    & A HAPPY NEW YEAR 2009.

    Merry Christmas !!

With 3 days before Christmas REMEMBER:

    Jesus is Better than Santa

Santa lives at the North Pole.

    JESUS is everywhere.

    Santa rides in a sleigh

JESUS rides on the wind and walks on the water.

Santa comes but once a year

JESUS is an ever present help.

Santa fills your stockings with goodies

    JESUS supplies all your needs.

Santa comes down your chimney uninvited

JESUS stands at your door and knocks.. and then enters your heart.

You have to stand in line to see Santa

JESUS is as close as the mention of His name.

Santa lets you sit on his lap

JESUS lets you rest in His arms.

Santa doesn’t know your name, all he can say is “Hi little boy or girl, What’s your name?”

JESUS knew our name before we did. Not only does He know our name, He knows our address too. He knows our history and future and He even knows how many hairs are on our heads.

Santa has a belly like a bowl full of jelly

JESUS has a heart full of love.

All Santa can offer is HO HO HO

JESUS offers health, help and hope.

Santa says “You better not cry”

JESUS says “Cast all your cares on me for I care for you.

    Santa’s little helpers make toys

JESUS makes new life, mends wounded hearts, repairs broken homes and builds mansions.

Santa may make you chuckle but

JESUS gives you joy that is your strength.

While Santa puts gifts under your tree

JESUS became our gift and died on the tree.

It’s obvious there is really no comparison.

We need to remember WHO Christmas is all about.

We need to put Christ back in Christmas.

Jesus is still the reason for the season.

May the Lord Bless and Watch over you and your loved ones this Christmas.

And may He prosper and bless the work of your hands in the New Year.

“Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ. His birth changed the whole world. Jesus was born in the little town of Bethlehem in Israel over 2,000 years ago. He came for you.”

I have been a regular reader of the Herald. I am sure many parishioners in the Archdiocese of Kuala Lumpur will miss the weekly newsletter.

I hope that the Home MInistry grants the KDN to Herald to continue with the publication.

The Weekly contains informative articles about not only the Catholic/Christian religion faith but also other religions. Is this not an effective means to encourage inter-religious dialogue among adherents of different religions?

The renewal delay, in my view, is deliberate. It does not speaks well of the Home MInistry nor does it project a good image to the countries outside Malaysia. This is just not what civilised people expect in a demoncratic country.

The excuse given for the delay is just lame and has no basis at all.
This shows that the officers at the Home Ministry do not seem to understand the printing process at all.

While we pray and hope that the KDN will be granted for 2009, we trust that the Home Ministry does not give cause for the retrenchment of the staff involved in the printing and disstribution of Herald.

May God bless all and help overcome the impasse.

To me..these are not the signs for end of the world.
These are signs..all seen in MALAYSIA…..are signs..end of UMNO and Malaysians under the bondage of these corrupted politicians..corrupted to the core…self appointed .little dictators.
UMNO days of fooling his own race is over!!
Race and religion politics are out-dated.
Take the….U…C..and I from UMNO ..MCA and MIC…you can clearly see..these die hard politicians love to separate Malaysians…never to unite us…as the power to divide and rule…master minded by Mahathir…Ling Liong Sik..and Samy Vellu…have produced a sizable blinded Malaysians..simply believe and leave their fate and futures to the hands of these devilish…corrupted..politicians.
“Do not simply believe..not even me.”.so said the Buddha.
That was spoken 2500 years ago…to no such thing as educations. Humans learn from listening to wise men..like the Buddha…the greatest TRUTH teacher in the world.
UMNO love to play on the hearts and tempt the minds for greed…to win votes.
These have all been exposed….through the wonders of Internet…and they are now on self denials…in fighting…no peace at all.in all those three devilish parties.
Yes….2009 will be a year closer to gain freedom to all Malaysians.
Vote for your children’s future. Treat your votes …..most powerful…….more powerful that the PM…which you helped to appoint him.
Vote for a united Malaysia Malaysians.
As for me…I will vote for the change in government…not because I love or hero worship Pakatan Rakyat party…but because it is sensible…totally right…to vote for change with one…ruling us for 50 years. That’s not voting. That’s living in a fool’s dream world..especially by UMNO members..that UMNO is their savior.
As for those MCA hypocrites…the Malaysian Chinese never supported them with a majority at all. So this corrupted sick people of Asia..no need to worry. It’s dead and gone…..like Gerakan…so is MIC.
Yes…peace on earth…goodwill to all mankind.
I am a Buddhist…and i love Jesus too..not as projected in the bible..but love his sermons…his parables…and his way of life. That was a special human being..so is Buddha…Mother Teresa and Mahatma Gandhi.

I was struck by Samy’s comment that Anwar’s failure to “clear the air” on the hudud affair “would only prove that Anwar and the opposition were only taking the people on a long ride.” Let’s see if we can focus on some other relevant points about “taking the people for a long ride.” In particular, since Samy has brought up this point about taking others for a ride, I wonder if Samy could first “clear the air” for us about why his party has been so inept in resolving the issue about the systematic campaign by his BN to demolish Hindu temples? Perhaps Samy could also first “clear the air” why, as he alleges, “Hindu religious songs and cultures were allegedly barred from being practiced openly” in Terengganu – a state controlled by his BN regime!

Now, if there’s anything that risks, ‘a massive protest, especially from the Indian community,’ don’t you think it should be the fact that there is, allegedly and as claimed by Samy himself, religious suppression going on in Terengganu?!

1,500 rally to defend Malay rights, ISA
    http://www.malaysiakini.com/news/95555

So look like the BN is back with the return of Darth Vader in the aspect of stirring the emotion and racial unharmonious in the nation Malaysia. So when both the “rakyat” and nation enjoy this harmony and peace on this Christmas season certain quarter ignite “Jihad” so said minority protecting the freedom of Malays Supremacy, defending the ISA and provoking the “Bangsa Malaysia” within the midst.

Lauding of the report by MalaysiaKini:
“Many teenagers at the gathering carried banners with slogans written in both Malay and Jawi such as ‘Kesabaran Melayu Ada Batas’ (Malays’ Patience Has Limits), ‘Jangan Hina Nabi Muhammad SAW’ (Don’t Insult Nabi Muhammad), ‘Jangan Pertikaikan ISA’ (Don’t Dispute ISA). ‘Kekebalan Raja Raja Dipertahankan’ (Defend the Royal Immunity), and ‘Jangan Pertikaikan Hak Orang Melayu’ (Don’t Dispute Malay Rights).

Other banners included ‘Melayu dan Mamak Bersatu’ (United Malays and Indian Muslims) and ‘Jangan Ulang 13 Mei’ (Don’t Repeat May 13).

Most of the participants were wearing red-coloured head-bands depicting the ‘Allahu Akbar’ slogan and pro-ISA black T-shirts.”

The storm is back with again with much more agitation and disturbing the peaceful of the environment. So why the BN won’t just give in to the totality and wants of the people but instead stir up this commotion. Just like father Just like Son, Like Najib and Abdul Razak.

I wonder this race will be end. Will it at their expense or the expense of the people?

Such an action while being lauded has certainly caused much and undue tension and stress on those whose employment depended on the publication licence for a livelihood.

The three conditions which the Home Ministry have imposed on the renewed KDN were simply ludicrous. No wonder the Archdiocese of Kuala Lumpur have referred to its lawyers for clarification and interpretation lest these conditions might be inadvertently infringed which gives the authority the pretext to slam a stop-printing order.

Another condition – to clearly state on the front page that the publications are to be circulated within and among the Chistians – appears restrictive and impractical. What if someone who is a non-Christian enters the Church and picks up a copy? Would the publisher be liable for the infringement? And, how can the church prevent someone from borrowing the weekly from friend and reading it?

The worst condition is to prohibit the Herald from printing the Bahasa Section when Bahasa Malaysia is the official language of the country! Does the authority realise that many of the Christian children have been brought up and are now proficient in the language. By forbidding Herald from using Bahasa is tantamount to a great constitional infringement. This is indeed very a serious infringement of humnan rights – preventing your own citizens from using the official language of the country. Could this also amount to treason?

During the New Year Message, the PM Abdullah Badawi has appealed to the Nation to respect people and teachings of other faiths, to practice tolerance and harmony. Religions should have as their primary aims to inculcate in the people these virtues such that their minds are receptive to the views espoused by their fellow men. Can we be so narrow minded as to fear that people of one religion may be swayed to another by merely reading a weekly. If that is the fear, then religious leaders may need to internalise ane examine where their teachings have gone wrong.

The Home Ministry must also take into consideration that in this age of info-technology and communication tons of undesirable and immoral reading materials can be obtained from the internet.

So, how can they prevent them from circulation? Be sensible my friend.

A person is commmitting a sinful crime by stopping the messages of God, surely is not a believer in God and thereby is the nation biggest enemy/traitor/tryant as Belief in God is enshrined in our constitution. Those KDN morons who ban the God’s name in whatever form or language with the purpose of safeguarding their shallow and narrow religious beliefs (if any) are not worthy of belonging to any religion. Let’s not communalise God!

Shame on the bastards who condemned Israel’s aerial and ground assault on Gaza Strip while on the other hand mentioned nothing on the rocket attacks on Israeli soil.

The Israel did not invade, trespassed Gaza before it’s aerial strikes on Gaza (Hamas Terorists) but it was the Hamas terrorists who provoked this war.

Shame on the one who supports the partial cause. Those who wanted to see the annihilation of Israel just because of their Neo-Hilter ideology is a Hitler themselves. SHAME ON THEM!

  79. Show-themthefuckin'finger says:

I hope Susan will publish my recent comment.

  82. Billau Chris says:

The damage has been done by the Home Ministry when they inserted three conditions to be imposed on the KDN for Herald for year 2009 – one of which that was clearly stated was prohibiting Herald to publish its weekly inserts in Bahasa Melayu. Now the MInistry is trying to tell a blatant lie by telling a different tale or story to the public (NST 13 Jan 2009)

Come on, use a bit of the OTAK up there! How could one argue out the predicament by telling the whole world that you did not forbid Herald to use Bahasa Malaysia for its publications
when the approval letter stated so clearly?

Secondly. if you allowed Herald to use Bahasa Malaysia, don’t you think so that you should also allow for the translation of the word “Allah” for the Almighty God?

The word “Allah” is an adopted word. It is Arabic in orgin and an Arablic word. so why the hassle.

Thirdly, the dispute is in the High Court. So let the High Court determine whether the disputatious word can be used or not. By imposing the ban now pending hearing, the Ministry’s action can be construed as preemptive and subjudice.

Hope the above helps the parties concerned iron out any misunderstanding and move forward to find
    an intermin acamicable solution.

  83. Billau Chris says:

Sorry for the typographical errors in the last paragraph of the above blog which should read thus,”Hope the above helps the parties concerned iron out any misunderstanding and move forward to find an interim amicable solution.
