Sheih aka Syed Azidi Syed Abdul Aziz, more popularly known as blogger kickdefella turned out to be a very courageous blogger. I am proud of him.

The moment I heard about his release (hooray!), I left the coziness of my apartment and went in search of an internet cafe to blog about this. Despite the 3 days in solitary confinement, Sheih did not reveal anything to the police.

“I told them that if they wanted a statement, they would have to charge me and I will give my statements in court in front of a judge,” Malaysiakini quoted him as saying, after he was released today, at about 1pm (Malaysian time).

“I tried to surrender myself to the Kelantan police immediate after finding out, but they replied that they were not looking for me,” he said on the fact that police was looking for him since Tuesday and arrested him only on Thursday.

“They didn’t lock me up with other suspects. I was put in a cell by myself”. Solitary confinement!

“They were trying to scare other bloggers and dampen my spirits. It didn’t work”. Bravo, Sheih.

How could it work on someone so genuine, creative, humorous, artistic and most of all humane. I know how courageous his wife and kids must be too, and proud to have him in the family!

According to Malaysiakini “Immediately after his release, he was interviewed by officials from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) in the CCID headquarters in Kuala Lumpur”. They’d probably find a reason to charge him. Cowards!

Sheih is an inspiration to so many others, just as the other bloggers had been like Raja Petra Kamaruddin (who is still under ISA detention).

Indeed, we are not free, and never can be free until RPK and other ISA detainees are free, for the sword of detention without trial, and the possibility of being kidnapped or disappeared or both by the state will forever hang over us.

Down with the EVIL ISA!

Read more of Sheih’s own words in “I found Al Ghazali in Dang Wangi“. He might have more to say after his 5.30pm (Malaysia) press conference today.

Come, come. Home Minister, you cannot put fear on men with integrity, who dare stand by their principles. Bullying and torture will not bring you very far. You may not be on the receiving end now, but, events can reverse not to your favor.

Yes RPK, Hindraf and many others are still under ISA. We must continue with our demand for the release of every one of them. Their continued detention means that our rights are being continuously threatened. The polis must never deny us the rights and freedom to express.

  7. Footsteps says:

Syed Azidi notices all of this, he wants to send a message to the people, for he is a patriot like his father. His father served the nation selflessly. The Commanding Officer of the 1st Rangers once upon a time was Lt Col Syed Abdul Aziz bin Syed Razak. His father commanded extraordinary brave men, unlike the likes of UMNO Putras. These men laid their lives for the nation, his father walked the talk.

This drifting boat by chance, came across the boat carrying their Commanding Officer, Lt Col Syed Abdul Aziz bin Syed Razak who was on his way from Song to Nanga Engkuah. 2Lt Anuar was carried to Rumah Eton, whilst one of his soldier’s Rgr Nawawi took the CO and his escort to the place where the ambush occured. When they reached the spot where the ambush occured they found WO2 Lenggu ak China barely alive, badly wounded. The soldiers who charged the enemy with Lenggu gave their ultimate sacrifice for this nation in the highest traditions of the Ranger Corps

Would a person of the calibre and character of Lt Col Syed Abdul Aziz bin Syed Razak who inspired his men to greater glory have brought up a son who would insult the Malaysian flag? I emphatically say, NO! He loves Malaysia so much so that he is bringing to attention the rudderless ship cast adrift, especially so when the Captain and his crew have fallen aleep, symbolically that all is not well in Malaysia.

He should not be charged at all, for sedition. It is a bankrupt government hell bent on scoring it’s own goal. The flag was not at all desecrated, it was a symbolic sign of distress. It is the strength of his father that is in Blogger Syed Azidi Syed Abdul Aziz, his convictions, his ideals, his principles and his love of Malaysia made him fly the flag upside down.

I told the press, I got more infos about the police rather than the police getting infos about me and I told the press that we should send Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to the lock-up, so he will finally find his Ghazali. I told the press, I enjoyed my time there and it is a treasure for me. I strongly believed it would be good for Dollah too.

My lawyer and me agreed that I should be charged so we can fight this politically motivated case in court. Abdullah Ahmad Badawi will be one of the witnesses I will call to the stand. Others will include Shahrir Abdul Samad and Deputy Minister Saifuddin Abdullah.

I will ask my lawyer to let me throw questions to Dollah. I hardly wait for the moment.

Now this coward is applying pressure on Badawi also:

A party of ethnic Indians in Malaysia on Sunday appealed to the Abdullah Badawi government to immediately release five leaders of a Hindu group detained under a draconian security act since December last year for organising an illegal rally complaining of racial inequality.

“The government should not hold them any longer as it will prolong the Indian community’s ill-feelings towards the government,” the Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) chief Samy Vellu said in a statement.

If the PDRM is interested in all upside down flag or something being said negatively about Malaysia almost all of us will end up in jail. Now we know why crimes are not being solve and cases like BMC, Ahmad, Saiful medical report and lots more are still pending. PDRM still trying to investigate flag upside down. I am against flag upside down but I am also against wasting manpower to try to arrest and convict rakyat for this. As usual people like Ahmad still running around and innocent people get haul up for a few days in jail… too bias and stupid for my taste for someone struggling to stay in power or want to take over power…. No wonder our country is 20 years beind others.. One can only scream in silence about the level of intelligence of our current government and they are still wondering why they are losing support…

  26. Kopi Anan says:

Armed Terrorist should be charged and tried under some Terrorism Laws and considered to be Enemy of the State, if they are citizens, charge with somekind of Treason against the Agong.

They should be tried under some semi-military laws & court and may include a civilian Grand Jury say, of more than 21 jurors kept away hidden under one-way glass screen.

Similarly, Unarmed Civilians considered to be a Threat to National Security or Racial Harmony can be tried under special laws with a Grand Jury of not less than 21 jurors, again kept hidden under one-way screen.

The Grand Jurors must be selected under very strict criteria, say, only those with tertiary Education Diploma and above, and reflecting the racial composition of the country to include religious, business, teachers, ex-military, ex-police, and professionals, doctors, accountants, engineers etc etc etc [politicians and card carrying party members are NOT allowed ].

This has to be done until we have become mature and more civilized which we may not achieve .

There shall be no more ISA nor Arbitrary Arrests nor detention without having first to go thru’ a Grand Jury, Judge and properly prepared charges and Intelligence Report ….. except for Foreigners charged, then, the Intelligence report must be for Eyes Only.

At least, with 21 or more Jurors can represent a cross-section of “educated” Malaysia , perhaps their ages also should be at least 30 and above, must have woman and married persons with children.

As there some 26 million population then, it is possible to select Jurors.

There shall 2 Courts one in Peninsula and the other in Borneo. All such cases must be tried before either the Semi-Miliary Court for Armed Terrorists and the othe a Civilian Court for Unarmed ” naughty Malaysians”.

We must accept that there are “nasty and naughty Malaysians” bent on cerating havoc and racial tensions.. that is a reality.

  27. machitam says:

    Dear chaptokam,

what is the different between flying the flag upside down and cutting, wrapping the flag into hat, bra, skirt, pants etc?

How do you respect your country?

i see there are many bodies e.g schools, gomen premises which don’t fly the flag. let alone to have a facilities like flag poles erected within their facilities. they are the one responsible to fly the flag.

yet there are so many flag lying around as rubbish in the street due to irresponsible citizen who print the flag to be sold as merchandise e.g candy, car flag etc. why were they let off easily?

is there a law stated that only authourized body can print and sell malaysian flag?

kicdefella fly the flag upside down as protest of the “wicked” gomen? does he fall under a “threat” to national security? how about those unauthorize bodies whom are irresponsible?

and about ISA…if he was not arrested under the ISA, why was “kicdefella” not brought to court to extend his remand beyond 24 hrs?

i don’t fly the malaysian flag but i respect it when it is flown along with the “Negaraku”

you want to talk more about flag?

    (1) That weighted that Susan was still in Penang when she wrote this as she said there is no internet access at her home in Penang? Weird to me. I thought Penang is a very developed State.

    (2) What about Susan’s job in Bangkok? Sorry to ask this lately but I am concerned. :]

  29. Jincumlambatly says:

In other countries citizens burns their countries’ flags on the streets and it is not an offense. Even in M’sia, when a flag is placed at half-mast. it is to show respect to someone who passed-away. So, in sheih’s case, “placing” the flag upside-down is to enunciate his protest at AAB. Why was it illegal?

MCMC Chairman must resign. Waste taxpayer money to pay his salary.

  36. Vindica says:

It is likely that the recent arrests were made to thrwo everyone off the scent. The ultimate aim is to arrest DSAI as he is a stumbling block to their continual governance of Malaysia. The threat from DSAI is the real and present danger, whereas the others are just red herrings. Whilst everyone’s focus will be on these four arrests, they will suddenly change tack and zoom in on DSAI before he permanently damage their hold on power. This tactic has always been used by BN for donkey years if none of you noticed. In the case of DSAi, they have one Senior Police indulging in politics (which he should not) advising the public not to stir citizens by citing racial and religious discourse in public. That will be followed soon after by police reports by individuals and groups complaining about certain individuals (all claiming that it has nothing to do with politics, etc, etc). All this while, the Minister and top government officials will keep quiet, but they are actually the ones pulling the strings and guiding these so-called running dogs. When the time comes, they will show their hands and the axe will fall on whosoever they wanted to do in.

A good example was 10 years ago when Mahathir had DSAI arrested for sodomy. It started with the publication “50 Reasons Why Anwar etc., etc.” Then the ball started rolling as all who followed the case will know. The rest is history. Numerous times this tactic or something similar to it had been employed successfully, and again we see this same tactic being used to have DSAI arrested again. As the saying goes, “know your enemy and half the battle is won.” Mahathir and his followers loves this kind of shadow play. Maybe they think the citizens of yesterday are the same as today.

  37. Menyalak-er says:

Ah yes, Vindica, i absolutely agree with your ‘wayang kulit’ analogy.

    Kak Susan,

Mengapa Peralihan Kuasa 2010 Pilihan Terbaik Untuk UMNO

  41. Menj says:

The MCA Central Committee met on Tuesday, 16th September 2008 and called for “a comprehensive review of the ISA so that it will apply strictly to cases relating to terrorism and subversive elements”.

Why didn’t the four MCA Ministers formally table this proposal at the Cabinet meeting the next day on Wednesday, 17th September 2008?

Are the MCA leaders just playing to the gallery in making public calls for the “comprehensive review” of the ISA, just for newspaper publicity but which MCA Ministers have neither intention nor political courage to pursue in Cabinet as a fundamental matter of principle?

MCA leaders are trying to raise a hue-and-cry over the identity over the “MCA operative in Puchong” whose police report one day earlier had triggered off Teresa Kok’s ISA detention.

Teresa had already revealed the identity of the “MCA operative in Puchong” concerned at the KL-Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall on the occasionn of the “head-shaving protest” by 18 justice-and-freedom-loving Malaysians expressing their outrage at the unjust, undemocratic and unlawful detention of Malaysia’s most famous blogger RPK, the Hindraf 5 and other detainees under the Internal Security Act.

The ball is now in the court of the “bold and courageous” MCA leaders.

  42. malay says:

The recent detention of the 4 under the ISA was done irresponsibly by our Hamid (Home Minister)-an act or irresponsibility (he urged other to act responsibly but he slapped his own face; his slanting lip when he talks also reminded us of Mahathir’s lip when he talks both v cynical and arrogant by way of body language-just layman comment and opinion) for your own reform). So, is Umno or BN going to take any action against Hamid for causing so much havoc, step down or resign or take 2weeks leave? If not then we commoners see it as a political plot.It was done in a rush and with no concrete basis and fundamental. It was alleged that it was done to “frighten” or “warn” those MPs who were in the process of crossing over to Pakatan Rakyat camp, just one day before the announcement of MPs cross-over.The other analytical reason is to forwarn Anwar & any opposition that ISA is in full force and the 4 detained were just to intimidate the rest, who BN accussed as traitors (where is democracy? so MPs are duty-bound and cannot exercise their rights once in the pit of UMno, like in the mafia circle, once you join you cant get out, if you get out you die (fearful underground business, what’s the difference). The 4 of them had to suffer unsurmountable distress, trauma and shock and irreparable phobias for the intimidation. It was seen as very desperate move by BN to cling on to power at the cost of their ethics and morals and responsibility.A shame in the eyes of the world. From now on we Malaysia becomes instant political celebrity in practicing democracy and human rights and freedom of speech. The whole world knows who and where is Malaysia now.Afraid that the rest of the world will boycott Malaysia for this.Who suffer? The rakyat, not those Ketuanan BN-UMno.Thanks to BN.

Menyalar-er, Yep … steamyx is a joke. You can complain all you want but MCMC will not pay attention to the issue. They rather spend time curry flavouring the politicians than to do their work.

I still like Tulang Besi’s expose that the detention of Kickdefella, RPK and Penarik Beca is connected to their work in exposing the PAS-UMNO fraction. Syeikh is close to Husam and his blogs are trusted in accuracy by its members. It was a good read to understand the PAS internal politics and the suggestion is that the arrest is motivated by UMNO’s desire to gag further expose on the faction in PAS that UMNO is courting. And thanks to the trio, this faction loses much credibility. The PAS’s act in coming out in full strenght in Permatang Pauh and defending Teresa Kok’s Azan-gate is a reflection of its renewed commitment to Pakatan than race based concerns. We have to thank Tok Guru Nik Aziz for being the rational leader in this saga.
