Sheih aka Syed Azidi Syed Abdul Aziz, more popularly known as blogger kickdefella turned out to be a very courageous blogger. I am proud of him.
The moment I heard about his release (hooray!), I left the coziness of my apartment and went in search of an internet cafe to blog about this. Despite the 3 days in solitary confinement, Sheih did not reveal anything to the police.
“I told them that if they wanted a statement, they would have to charge me and I will give my statements in court in front of a judge,” Malaysiakini quoted him as saying, after he was released today, at about 1pm (Malaysian time).
“I tried to surrender myself to the Kelantan police immediate after finding out, but they replied that they were not looking for me,” he said on the fact that police was looking for him since Tuesday and arrested him only on Thursday.
“They didn’t lock me up with other suspects. I was put in a cell by myself”. Solitary confinement!
“They were trying to scare other bloggers and dampen my spirits. It didn’t work”. Bravo, Sheih.
How could it work on someone so genuine, creative, humorous, artistic and most of all humane. I know how courageous his wife and kids must be too, and proud to have him in the family!
According to Malaysiakini “Immediately after his release, he was interviewed by officials from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) in the CCID headquarters in Kuala Lumpur”. They’d probably find a reason to charge him. Cowards!
Sheih is an inspiration to so many others, just as the other bloggers had been like Raja Petra Kamaruddin (who is still under ISA detention).
Indeed, we are not free, and never can be free until RPK and other ISA detainees are free, for the sword of detention without trial, and the possibility of being kidnapped or disappeared or both by the state will forever hang over us.
Down with the EVIL ISA!
