Update: Mahathir Mohammad’s son Mukriz (MP for Jerlun) is said to be staying put in UMNO as he is vying for UMNO Youth’s top post this December.

This goes to show, there are no principles here, only greed. Why ask the prime minister to resign as soon as possible?

So now that Mukriz has deserted his father, too, what now Mahathir?

Earlier, I said that it seems like UMNO MPs have made up their minds about Mahathir Mohammad, who thought he caused an earthquake when he and his wife resigned from UMNO yesterday.

Did his plan backfire instead?

His plan was to weaken present PM and UMNO president Abdullah Ahmad Badawi so bad that the man hands in his resignation A.S.A.P.

Today in Parliament, however, the opposite had happened.
Dollah only gave the Mahathir resignation issue five minutes, according to the Malaysian Insider. And all the MPs threw their support behind him. Minus Mahathir’s son Mukriz, of course. What is his stand? Still contemplating? Why not say you resign A.S.A.P?

What do you expect of UMNO MPs anyway?

In the meeting, Dollah also took the opportunity to condemn Mahathir by saying that his resignation was selfish and self-centred (putting himself above the party).

Worse still UMNO MPs are saying this move by Mahathir is going to make UMNO stronger.

Dear Lord! Isn’t that the worst news you have heard so far? What does it really take to get rid of UMNO – completely and totally?

    Dear Sue,

Like in Sichuan, when disaster strikes, people get closer and stronger.

In this case, like you said, M thought his resignation would be a disaster for PM, but the opposite took effect.

Ironic, but healthy and good for both Umno and the country. This is poetic justice at the least; whether real justice could be acheived remains to be seen.

Why has no reporter ask Mukhriz whether he will follow his dad? If not, why not. And the old snake why the baby snake has not slithered away too? Go get them!!!!!

    Cheers!

Dollah oh Dollah… do you know how ugly it sounds coming out from your mouth. If you know what self-centred means, you would be resting in kepala batas and we would not be in this mess.

Not at all surprised, they are all the President’s men. Which Umno MP will sacrifice his current comfortable position for a place in the wilderness, not knowing when and if he can ever return? Mahathir has overplayed his hand this time around. He has few cards left. Time and good health are also not on his side. What next?

What is the issue? Let’s celebrate…per your earlier article “Dr M deserts sinking ship”. He and his gang had created all the shits during his 22 years in power, is payback time. Real man dont run away from problems, they face them. This seems to be his last straw to get Pak Lah to resign and put Najis on board…then all Malaysian will have another 22 years to suffer.

It was a good thing to happen that this RECALCITRANT has finally quit UMNO. Even Musa Hitam commented that a torn in flesh finally out of UMNO flesh.

No exodus means Mahathir’s influence are not that big as many people perceived. Padan muka Mahathir. Even his MP son is hesitating whether to resign or not, so how you expect the rest? Look like Mahathir has no influence over this son.

Takpalah, at least Siti Hasmah resigned.

    Guys!

The comments below, especially Karpal’s sums up succinctly M’s character.

    From The Star:

“”Penang, Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng described Dr Mahathir’s resignation as a “gigantic political earthquake” for Umno after the “political tsunami’’ of March 8.

He said in a press statement yesterday the resignation was an “internal rivalry, which is part of the intense power struggle of disparate vested interests within Umno”.

He said the real issue for Umno was not how the power struggle would play out but about undertaking reforms to institutionalise democracy, uphold the rule of law and combat corruption.

“This is a choice between Umno moving Malaysia forward or taking the country backwards,” said Lim who is DAP secretary-general.

DAP national chairman Karpal Singh said in a statement Dr Mahathir’s call for all Umno members to quit but not join any Opposition party “clearly shows his true colours”.

“He is unabashedly prepared to ruin his own party which was responsible for him being Prime Minister for 22 years”.

Claiming that Dr Mahathir was a “gutter politician incapable of becoming a statesman”, Karpal Singh said he had employed “cloak and dagger tactics” to cause Tunku Abdul Rahman’s downfall after the May 13 incident and was now trying to destabilise Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi’s government.””

I don’t think his plan has completely backfired, just never underestimate the power and inertia of incumbency. No matter how sleepy Bedol may be, it is not easy to shake him out of his seat.

Those greedy boys who `support` Badawi do only for the reason that if they resign from UMNO they have to give up their seats as MPs and then stand in by-elections where they`d probably lose and then lose their `pencen`.

    11. But supposing a Deputy Prime Minister writes a letter of recommendation for his sister-in-law to an official or minister of another country who could be expected to take a serious view of the recommendation because the writer is a Deputy Prime Minister of a friendly country and the recommendation is for his sister-in-law, does this constitute lobbying, or corruption or abuse of power. We need to know so that such letters of recommendation would not be written again. We need to know if they were written before, can action be taken against them now since we are now taking action on things which happened in the past. By being very clear about the past, the present and the future Malaysia would become highly regarded as the epitome of righteousness and the practitioners of the rule of law.

    Dear Mr Prime Minister,

Now that the old snake has made his move, we, the longsuffering rakyat, expect you to call his bluff.

    Sincere Suggestions:

    1) Like Guan Eng said, this is the turning point for Umno and the country.
“The real issue for Umno was not how the power struggle would play out but about undertaking reforms to institutionalise democracy, uphold the rule of law and combat corruption.”

This is your chance in a lifetime to effect a sea change in Umno to cleanse and heal itself of the cancerous growth started by Dr M and gang in 1969.

This is your chance in lifetime to leave a legacy where you will be remembered as one who dared to defy the old snake and thus return the country to its original aspirations and aims before 513 took place.

    2) Waste no time, Act NOW!!!!!
Put the old snake in jail before he does a 513 on you like he did on the Tunku. The fact that most UMNO stalwarts have deserted him is a good gauge of how they will react should you press ahead and charge him and the five for the Lingam tapes.

    3) Get the DAP and Anwar on your side for this one.

And, in my mind, your vagaries are but a speck in the ocean compared to what the old snake did in the past 22 years. In other words, we still believe you to be a decent man.

    We are all waiting……………………. ..

  15. Congratulations Raykat says:

Only thing is he is still dreaming!!!

Well perhaps the ripples of the tsunami created by Tun’s resignation have not reached the interior yet.

I got to office and learned that 300 members from the Jalan Badlishah UMNO Branch in Merbok, Alor Setar resigned on block in support of and sympathy with Tun’s resignation from UMNO.

The resignation of Tun might be viewed as a watershed to separate the goats and the sheep. I only hope that this time he imbues the sheep with a sense of justice and fair-play, inter-racial and inter-religious acceptance and the virtue to create a Malaysian Malaysia. And what happen to the goats?
Should he decide to crush them or send them for rehabilitation classes?

Meantime, I am watching the development.

  17. Congratulations Raykat says:

He has managed to milk the ‘cow’ till the ‘cow’ is all dried up with no more ‘milk’ to give. He is now in the act of slaughtering the ‘cow’.The cow has become ‘good for nothing’ to his eyes now.He slowly puts the ‘knife’(his resignation) to the throat of the cow to make it die a painful death, feeling his ‘viciousness’.
Do not be mistaken, the ‘cow’ is not UMbiNo or BiNo.These cows are long dead already. This ‘cow’ I meant is the ‘rakyat’.All prices are up and there is nothing to milk, because the ‘cow’ is bleeding already!
But , he is not the only one who is ‘milking’ and then ’slaughtering’.
There are many more with him. They will follow suit, soon.
This act is the natural instinct of human being from the animal family, to milk first and then when there is no more milk to slaughter the poor cow for the remaining ‘meat’ for the pasar malam!
Beware of this wild animal instinct!

What democarcy is he talking about – Operation Lallang for those who opposed him. Suspending newspapers!! Killing the Judiciary!! Democracy ala TDM.

People expect en mass resignation? if everyone resign, who will be left to replace Pak Lah?

50 UMNO MPs or rather Pak Lah missed the point!

Tun Mahathir quit UMNO but will rejoin back once Pak Lah has been replaced. He stated that! He doesn’t really expect the MPs to resign, did he? But he expects UMNO will replace their president.

Based on the current political situation, Tun has rather comfortable bet that Pak Lah will be replaced. Tun’s action is just one of the effort to get Pak Lah to be replaced. UMNO will have to evaluate within and outside i.e. looking at BN component parties.

There are few eager candidates to take over from Pak Lah. Once Pak Lah is replaced, Tun M rejoin UMNO, case closed!

Why are you so afraid? What are you afraid of? 513? Ops Lallang? The quota system? Vincent Tan? Lorrain Osman (and those he represents?) Shall we be hostage to the climate of fear and poison spread by the old snake forever? So what, man?

The nation has to move forward. Consider the following:

Was i Hangzhou recently (first visited in 91), and several tunnels were built into the surrounding hillls to help traffic flow. There was NO TOLL. Cab driver said his Gomen cannot charge toll as the money for the tunnels are from the people.

I am no communist, but the inroads and improvements acheived into everyday life of the common folks in China for the past 20 years is a good contrast tp what is happening in our dear country.

Ditto for the foreign reserves, etc.
And in China, they HANG even top party leaders if they are found guilty of corruption. Many princelings and party cronies were dealt with severely the past 10 years. If the Lingam tapes happened in China, the six would be facing trial by now. (not that I advocate their judiciary , but it IS more effective than ours at present in weeding out corruption at least.

    Sorry for the digression.

Once more, we have tp be brave and put on our armour of truth.

    Take the plunge, man!!!!!!

Either his plan back fired or this is what everyone were waiting to happen, the thorn is out from the flesh as Musa Hitam says it. While Dr.M was brilliant ,its was his doing in the past 22 years ,that the Malaysian people are divided with his damaging policies implemented silently into the civil government. In trying to help the Malays , he only created a few circle of his cronies to be multi-millionaires whereas the majority poor were neglected. The Indians were marginalised and deprived of any opportunities ,with the S-hole Samy Vellu at helm in MIC, they have only enriched themselves and their cronies. Good riddance , now for the others.

Wow , the opinions are indeed insightful and they represent a cross-sectional view from the rakyat.

I am most impressed by the comment by Noor Othman. If I may add further, there are natural resources and wealth in the country that can be amply and comfortably shared and enjoyed by all her citizens. There is no need for any quota to be imposed on the implementation of any economic or social policy or programme for the people.

After 50 years, it is amazing that the UMNOputras still want us to tolerate one another rather than accept one another as human beings like abang adek. Human beings have similar sets of aspirations, expectations, needs and wants. If the UMNOputras harbour the notion that they were supra-human beings requiring and expecting better benefits, then they must be building castles in the air.

The rakyat is fed up because of your unfounded fear of losing your control and position. You are too arrogant to admit your idiosyncratic flaws in your social-economic policies. Your religious policies and practices are highly discriminatory. If you ask me for my opinion, I will just say that you do not have a long term game plan. Besides, you make the coalition party components feel that they are just appendages. Is that part and parcel of UMNO’s attempt to enforce the “ketuanan-melayu-ism” in the country?

The deeply entrenched and seated self-interest in you chaps up there has influenced your mind far oftener that it has corrupted your hearts. With this state of mind, how can you ever think straight and formulate just and fair policies for the rakyat. We are left despondent.

Just look at the the operating results of all the GLCs that grew out of the out-dated NEP as an attempt to create a class of Malay- entrepreneurs and to eradicate poverty.

The dependent mentality to which the CEOs of these GLCs are accustomed will not help them at all to be competititve and successful. They get high and enviable salaries and attractive benefits. But not many of them are performing and producing the desired results. Business acumen needs to be moulded, nurtured and cultivated through years of coaching, training and guidance. You just cannot pluck a senior civil servant out from somewhere to head a business organisation and expect him to do wonders.

We have local expertise. But, you do not allow the Chinese or Indians to head these GLCs to provide the necessary business training to our Malay brethren and sisters. You prefer to engage foreigners rather to give an opportunity to the locals to head such organisations. What a waste of manpower! This continued practice has drained and is draining the country dry. By your actions, you have dichotomised the races.

Well I do not have much hope on UMNO leading BN to bring about justice, equality and a progressive society. We need a change badly.

AAB has been given a second chance to choose his cabinet but he screwed it up by appointing many of his tainted and reputed cronies as ministers and deputy ministers who have problems facing the light. It is a shame and affront for any dignified human beings to be offered offices as ministers without portfolio. You have let the rakyat down; so you have to face the consequences of your action. Money is not what the Sabahans want. They want to be able to contribute meaningly to nation building; so by relegating the East Malaysians to head ministries without portfolio and appointments as Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Paliament is insensitive and unconscionable. AAB, you cannot fool them now anymore.

I thought after the general election AAB would know where the faults and challenges lie and would zoom in to arrest them. But, somehow, he does not pay too much attention on implementation and feed-back which in fact is one of the
UMNO and BN’s Achilee’s heel. A lot of talk and hot air but not proper follow up actions.

To test whether AAB and his officers still enjoy the rakyat’s trust and confidence, the time may be opportune to call for a snap election. I am sure the rakyat will support that proposition.

Well, now we can all see the true colours of Anwar, which I’ve never trusted but gave the benefit of the doubt.

What it means is Anwar is so power crazy that he is willing to trade off party members who oppose M (and want action for the Lingam tapes) for M and his UMNO followers.

By doing so, he hopes to finish ABB ASAP to ascend to the throne, even though it means forgoing revenge for his archfoe M. Do not be surprised if Anwar, together with PAS and M’s boys plus the froggies from both peninsular and east malaysia, form another new party to take over the premiership.

    May 21, 2008 02:04 AM

Opposition Parties Invite Dr M To Join Them

KUALA LUMPUR, May 21 (Bernama) — PAS and Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) have asked former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to join them, now that he has decided to quit Umno.

PAS President Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang and PKR President Datin Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail extended the invitation to Dr Mahathir.

Abdul Hadi said he always welcomed Dr Mahathir or other Umno members to join PAS.

Dr Wan Azizah said PKR’s doors were always open for Dr Mahathir if he was interested in joining the party.

Dr Mahathir Monday announced his decision to quit Umno, saying he had lost confidence in Umno President Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and that he would only rejoin the party after Abdullah had stepped down as party president and prime minister.

I am not too sure what is coursing through the mind of Mukriz. I believe he is torn between the deep ble sea and the devil. He is in a serious state of dilemma.

If one were to examine the overall conspiracy strategy, one might want to know why Tun’s resignation did not take place before he met up with Najib who was allegedly prevented by his boss AAB? Tun had to force upon AAB to make an open admission in the media that he did not prevent Najib to meet him.

Najib was probably one of the earliest to respond that he would contact Tun and try talk to Tun to reconsider his decision. Why?

Thirdly, Mukriz will not leave UMNO. He is to provide information to Tun, who needs inside information for his stragegy to work.

Having said and done, let us watch the fun that will enfold before us as the circus advances.

After M met N, molotov cocktails got thrown at DAP HQ in Perak and Karpal got a live bullet. Meanwhile, Mukhriz has called May 13 a `blessing`.
M&N Enterprises is functioning very well.

  131. sandyow says:

A million and one conspiracies about Tun M’s resignation. I read here from the comments that Tun M’s conspiring with Anwar, Najib, PAS, DAP? What else? So much nonesense being thrown out and people are making their own assumptions. That is a bit unhealthy isnt it? If Tun’s decision was to create diversion, indeed he succeeded, for a while at least, it got people talking about all sorts of conspiracy theories. Like susan said in her next blog post, LET’S GET DOWN TO BUSINESS! This will not fool us for long Tun M, we still want to know about the Lingam tape issue.

  132. woodyooi says:

    Susan,

I think Mahathir Family do tolerate “Dissenting Voice” At least the Tun did not put in Newspaper to dis-own that son.

Hello TDM.Election is over! Rakyat voted Badawi our PM. Can someone powerful stop TDM from throwing tantrums. Oh, ya he is in his 2nd childhood now, forgot, no wonder throw tantrums. Why not Badawi & gang send him toys to pacify him instead. Com’on, TDM, u tak dak kerja lain, kita ada kerja (you have no better work to do, we have better work to do). TDM is a retired old man why still think he is the PM and act and talk like he is the PM, worse still, TDM thinks Mahathir & Sons own this country. He thinks he is God going round condeming and criticising the whole world leaders. He is the only God who even changed the time zone! Also change the royals privileges. For God sake, we rakyat had been misled by this guy who is now clowning around at the expense of the country and its people. Truly proven that TDM only cares for himself and his sons and their empire and not the country and people! He was a big spender PM. Now he & sons want to topple Badawi. Why? Because TDM is worried now that Badawi will take action against him, so want to cause chaos – TDM tactics. People, dont fall into TDM’s trap. All people and media should not pay attention and give him any space or air time and the dust will settle and all of us can go back to work. Buat Kerja not BUAT KACAU.We want Badawi our PM to bring justice reform. Badawi’s first reform job is to trial Mahathir and his famous 5 to court for the Lingam case. Until and unless we see that no one is above the law only we believe Badawi’s judicial reform and also the Altantuya murder. The rakyat is waiting for justice served for these 2 high profile cases. Rakyat also dont understand why Badawi is not taking action against Mahatir & sons for threatening to topple Badawi. So much damaging remarks and actions and Mahathir & Sons are challenging Badawi, knowing that Badawi will not take any action against them thinking that Badawi is weak and a softie. Testing his patience. Too much these trio father & sons scheme to become the Boss of malaysia. Mahathir thinks he is still in power and wants one of his sons to become PM in near future so that all his and his sons corruption cases and mismanagement of funds be write-off. Millions of rakyat money for bailing out his sons companies and now want to be the “tai-koh” (gang leader). Tak Malu (No moral shame). Good news for Umno. TDM & sons quit Umno. Finally all can move on and BUAT KERJA-LAH!TDM can go on day dreaming and retire gracefully, go enjoy the view from the top of KLCC your masterpiece! Last time very busy, now very free, so spend your twilight years with your family- yur family needs you, the rakyat DONT NEED YOU and your blah blah blah. Meow.
