A suggestion from the prime minister often becomes a direction, stupid. This is what people call “undue influence”.

So how can the prime minister say that the government’s “decision” to scrap the use of indelible ink during the 12 General Elections was delivered in the form of an “opinion and not instruction” ? (Malaysian Insider).

I suppose if the Election Commission were really independent, it’s chairperson will shoot back “Thank you very much. We’ll have the indelible ink anyway”.

But that depends on whether the EC chief had any balls or not.

It happened that he didn’t. Because here the EC chief Abdul Rashid Abdul Rahman caved in “after being informed about the cabinet’s decision to cancel the use of the ink”.

“And I was called and told about it and I was told to take the whole responsibility for agreeing to the ink. I took the whole responsibility.”

I thought ‘take responsibility’ means going ahead with an unpopular decision when one believes it is the right decision and face the consequences.

But no, Abdul Rashid conveniently pushed the blame back to the government ! He/ his balls was/were swayed by what the PM said. He dumped his conscience and the EC’s decision to use the ink, which was meant to prevent cheating in the elections.

So, he, too had no balls or rather his balls were swayed. But he passed on the blame again to the police, PAS and UMNO for his cowardice:

“I was told that PAS in the east coast bought ink from Thailand. Then Umno came to know (about this) and Umno also bought the ink. This was given to me in black and white by the police and the same report went to the cabinet and they believed that this was happening,” he said.

Abdul Rashid could have retired peacefully in December had he only followed his conscience. His extended service was itself controversial when the prime minister went to parliament to extend the retirement age of the EC chairperson just to accommodate Abdul Rashid.

Do you see why I call it ‘undue influence’ ? Do you see why I called this person an ‘Umno guy‘ ?What do we do with this UMNO guy, pretending to be an independent EC chief? What happened to the RM2mil ++ expenditure on the ink and where are the bottles of ink? Will we have this inky business back during the coming 13the GE or not? Or would we have to remain forever inkless in our entire voting lives?

If your boss urgently tells you not to do something, no matter in what manner his words are delivered, is it a suggestion or an instruction? Can you just ignore it and go your own merry way? Only at the peril of losing your job! At least that’s my experience.

The EC chief is telling us in other words he was never independent of the ruling government who hastily amended rules to extend his tenure. He owes them and is owned by them. Shades of murky ink, some clarity now emerges as to how many institutions are tainted by executive meddling. Something we suspect all along but only now becoming more exposed to public light. What next after the Judiciary, EC…..

Let us not forget that when the announcement for scrapping the ink
was done our PM came out to insist that the EC must give an valid
explaination for the scrapping. Since now the PM admitted that the
kitchen cabinet was making a suggestion to the EC chairman, the
question now : why did the PM came out to insist that the EC give a
valid reason for scrapping the ink knowing very well that the idea came
from the kitchen cabinet. This is tantamount to LIEING by PM and then
misleading the nation. In other words to say the PM is a LIAR.

  15. Thinkvision says:

That’s what happened when you tell lies.

You tell bigger lies to cover up the smaller lies. Then you tell the mother-of-all lie to cover up all the bigger lies. So now who is lying? The PM, EC Chief, AG, or the Police Chief? A lie will remain a lie unless it was substantiated with facts.

In order to look good and be the righteous one, now everyone are pointing fingers at someone else. In the game of musical-point-your-finger, someone is bound to take the fall. So can we have the next person to make the accusation or counter-accusation?

Instead of ‘Watergate’ we now have our very own ‘Inkgate’ scandal.

This is the best time for the AG to nail the fellow.

  21. hutchrun says:

KUALA LUMPUR, May 19 — Tengku Adnan Mansor is livid, contemplating resigning as the secretary-general of Umno. To me that is what 4th floor is trying to do. Throwing in the dead fishes so that a drowning PM can escape unnoticed by the sharks. If he cannot swim, he shouldn’t pretend; just let someone else take over quickly. Shouldn’t keep digging up dead fishes when there is so much to do with our economy and social standing. Sigh. Will the AG take action against the ball-less man?.I don’t think so along with the IGP,the AG is part of the regime who play out the “sandiwara”,Badawi is hard pressed by every angle to resign for the politic tsunami that nearly wipe out BN.This revelation could be another sandiwara or reason to hold a snap election to repair the damage done on 8th March. Possibly BN will be prepared to ensure they win a 2/3 majority this time with more dirty tricks and unseen hands behind conducting the GE to ensure they win handsomely, only a total wipe out of BN will ensure its given a proper burial this time by majority of Malaysians.Pakatan Rakyat then can form the Federal Government and move the nation ahead as we seem to be stuck with talk of rebranding the parties and changing to suit the current enviroment. Guess, its quite late now, BN should have done this a long time ago,no point in crying over the spill milk or trying to lick it up from the floor.

    I must tell you these:

You are not an office boy in a government office Ok. When you are task to to the EC job, you must have thought about the enormous responsibility that the job entails. The whole future of this nation hangs on whether you have the guts to do the right thing.

Not and never the thing right. Your bosses can tell you what to do, but you must decide. Obviously from hindsight you have FAIL every Malaysians.

What do you want us to do with you now? You confess but it is too late. The Malay saying… Nasi sudah jadi buburlah!

You are a man. Before the election you said that you are independant. How independant people asked. You said you are a man with big balls hanging between your legs. What did you do with the big balls between the legs?

Did you take it out and lampooned all the Malaysians?

Or did you took it out and hantam the Cabinet?

If you are sleepy soundly everyday after you make this revelation, I am really ashamed of you.

God is watching you!!!. I only pray HE deals with you the way he sees fit.

Too late… too weak… too timid, no balls… is all I can say about YOU.

  33. Ong Ting Ting says:

    Dear Mahathir,

    Your resignation is NO surprise.

Tomorrow the papers will say that you did not resigned but was misquoted.

Tomorrow you will say you are still a member of UMNO and that you were only testing to see how stupid all the other UMNO members are.

Mahathir, you are an idiot as far as I am concerned.

I am not talking about the ex PM, Mahathir here OK!. I am talking about my neighbour. His full name is Mahathir Bin Bohong aka Mahathir bin Mamak aka Mahathir bin Mahathir. A sly Guy.

Once he praised the BN as the flawless party in the Bolehland, now betrayed by the political master, what else to say. If he could have stood together with the RAKYAT, upheld the true spirit of DEMOCRACY, we will not have a PUTRAJAYA Parliament constituency with only 5000 voters as compared with KAPAR which has more than 60 thousands voters. Imagine the kind of DOSA he has? Imagine how much damage he has done to the RAKYAT? I believe He also knows the true conspiracy of the MAHATHIR Project in SABAH which I believe is a TREASON ACT to the BOLEHLAND. Will this old fox repent and reveal the truth? We shall see.

  35. hutchrun says:

Damnit! It looks like he`s only playing to the gallery. The resignation is not a resignation:

Against this backdrop of inertia and indifference, the former PM could see that his campaign to oust Abdullah was petering out. Only a sudden and drastic move could help him regain the initiative. This is what he attempted to do today by resigning from a party he joined in 1946.

At a press conference later, Dr Mahathir said he will submit his resignation from Umno as soon as possible.

What does `as soon as possible` mean. Surely he doesn`t mean he`s forgotten how to write now.

  36. hutchrun says:

He’s not resigning from the party the 1946 party. That party ceased to exist 20 years ago. He’s member 0000001 of UMNO Baru, which is his own creation, including all the corruption in its full glory.

  39. ANg Kong says:

saw a clip on utube prior to GE abt that SOB gave a press conference. well, it was more like a confrontation, he created such a hostile attitude. He talked like a sam seng and behaved very much like one too! even insulted a female reporter when she asked if the possibility tht the ink will be dropped when that SOB knew fully well from day 1 that the ink would NEVER be used. This didnt stop him fr dumping millions of our money in purchasing the ink as a gimmick to look independent.
so now the GE is over… will he escape justice? IMHO, he needs to answer in front of a panel of experts for his decision in dumping the ink.

  52. Billau Chris says:

This EC Chief Rashid in my mind and opinion just had no choice but to give in to the “advice or opinion” from on high.

Until now I have vague ideas as to why the indelible ink was recommended for use at the general election. Is it to prevent multiple voting? Or was it another smoke-screen deliberately created to divert and distract the attention of the electorate from the many other underhand tactics used in election process as reported by the media in many third world countries?

What I was most disappointed was the lack of fiscal discipline of the BN Government. Before deciding on the proposed indelible ink, they should have look into the possible loopholes and problems that might arise after the election. To approve the expenditure of RM2.6 Miliion on the purchase of the said ink, to my mind, was most inconceivable, unwarranted and unnecessary. It was a waste of public fund. Was the said sum meant to be the ‘retirement benefit’ or golden handshake for the EC Chief for executing a successful election for BN? That was the speculation of most people I talked to.

Before the EC Chief retires officially at the end of the year, I think the PR MPs should take action to indict him or make him at least accountable for the following complaints relating to illusionary voters that surfaced after the general election. Some of these phantomic phenomena include:

    1) Why were certain voters’ names vaporised from their previous constituency’s electoral roll and appeared in another completely unknown to him?

    2) Where were names of phantom voters’ names appearing on electoral roll in residences that were not occupied or occupied by other people?

    3) Postal votes of mIlitary and police personnel appeared in constituencies or areas where there was no gazetted military or police camps or posts.

    4) Can the EC Chief swear that the present voting system guarantees absolute balloting secrecy?

The RM2.6 Million is gone. What substituted stationery did the EC get in return? From which supplier was the purchase made? Who are the owners, directors or partners of the supply firm? The matter is of public interest. Please report to the public.

This is not tantamount to questioning the right of the Malays. We the people of Malaysia have a vested interest in the money that BN spent. And we wanted to know how BN spent it. Is it so wrong? NR you need not have to tell us this from Egypt. It is too far away to be audible and acceptable by majority of the people of modern Malaysia.

NR for your information you are dabbling with racial politics, a subject of the Anti- Sedition Act; so beware, when you make such utterances. You are just making it difficult for your Minister of Law and AG to function effectively.

  53. tunglang says:

This Rashid guy not only has no balls, this S.O.B. has no conscience to be accommodated for this highly responsible role as EC Chief. What’s more the 2million expense for Indian Ink is too much to resist as his last go at EC. Whatever it is, this EC Chief has to bear FULL responsibility for this fiasco. May he burn in HELL!
