Update (21 May 2008) – Mahathir has denied this letter on his blog: “Letter” to the Prime Minister of Israel
Ex-Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad can be many things, but can he ever be pro-Israel? Could he be asking Ehud Barak for money to fund UMNO during the 1999 General Elections, in return for “unlimited” US military bases in the country? Were there plans to establish diplomatic relations with Tel Aviv?
That is what that letter above says. No matter how I detest the former premier, I am shocked that someone could stoop so low to defame him as such.
I remember how desperate UMNO/BN was in 1999, but this scenario CAN’T be possible. Knowing Mahathir !
This letter, stamped confidential, purportedly from the Prime Minister’s Department, dated 16 August 1999, and addressed to Ehud Barak, is circulating in the internet. I don’t know and I am not aware if others have seen it before or if it is a sick joke.
I just think its my duty to let others know that this document exist and that it is indeed wrong to play such a prank on our ‘beloved’ Mahathir.
Wouldn’t you like to get your hands on the person who did this?
