Pixs Lim Guan Eng from BBC

Civil society has been clamouring for this for a long time. Today, we hear DAP LIm Guan Eng, sworn in as 4th Penang chief minister say:

“Attempts will be made to restore local government elections in the state; meanwhile, professionals and NGO representatives will be appointed”. (Chin Huat)

(update) Guan Eng/DAP also promised a Freedom of Information Act and added that assets of officials will be declared soon.

Selangor and Penang have promised local elections. What about the other Opposition states?

Good for you, DAP, and good for Penang.  We’re on our way to a good start.

Ps. Past summonses for hawkers licenses and parking will be waived too. Now, isn’t that like having Christmas and whatever festival you name it, twice a year.

The Victory was amazing. I’m from Penang, so I say, this is the best thing that happened to Penang. Regardless of what happen next, this will be the best thing happened to Penang. It touched me to see the indian, chinese and malay all came together. I have always been a DAP supporter. I’m so happy for them. Kit Siang is finally happy now. I’m sure in his mind, there are still a lot to do. This is just the bginning of great things. I urge all Penang people not to ask what can DAP do for them. Ask what you can contribute to Penang. This is our home. Leaving your future to people’s hands is foolish. Have faith and support DAP. If we all work together we can achieve great things. DAP is lead by a pool of heroes who put their self interest behind. They have lost countless times. They even went to jail by speaking the truth. But they came back and they kept fighting. All of us are thankful and grateful to you all. Kit Siang, you truly have the spirit of Spartacus. You’d fight even though you knew many times you’d lose. We’re all so glad you won in the end. Even if you lose, you’ll place higher than most of the winners. My mother always tell me, never try to be a hero for heroes die young. You proved to us all that without heroes, this world is dead. The world will be dead if the good is not doing anything.
I’m sure the DAP members will work hard. Just know that no matter what, we will support you till we draw our last breath. There is no way we’re going back for enough is enough. We will help to keep what we have now. DAP, may the people be with you.

CLEAN in EVRYTHING; ENVIRONMENT, GOVERNANCE, SYSTEMS,PEOPLE, FOODS etc.

  6. A very good move by Guan Eng. Take this opportunity to clean up Penang from top to bottom.

I wish we could do the same for Perak. Ipoh for an example has been ‘ruled’ by councilors from BN far too long. Remove them and replace them with those who really care for Ipoh.

Well done Malaysians for bringing on this change for the betterment for our country

Haiz..We Perakians still in dilemma over the Menteri Besar issue..

Almost 99% Chinese here in Perak and Ipoh wish for a historic DAP MB, be it Indian or Chinese(we don’t have Malay reps for this Election). Wish is wish…but we also respect the scope of Democracy & Equality. If DAP thinks that this is the best strategy to use to gain stable footing for next General Election, I myself will respect that. This is a strategy applied even during the ancient China, “One Step Back is One Step Forward”.

I think Pak Lah knows this is one best way to get rid of some of the Ministers that are too arrogance. These ministers are from the Mahathir era. These ministers including himself wants to see that their powers and their dirty dealings are to be protected that’s why Mahathir made an agreement when he personally choose Pak Lah to take over him. He thinks he is soft and a YES MAN. It is like Singapore, he moves out – a caretaker (Pak Lah) takes over for a term or two then his son takes over. But Pak Lah thinks otherwise. So you see, he lets the Zakaria Deros (Klang ), Lingam’s video, HINDRADF, Anwar’s ceramahs to go on. This is not what Mahathir wanted. By now this “Old Man” knows what Pak lah is up to – clean-up the mess he has made in the past 22 years by using the best sword – the “RAKYAT OF MALAYSIA” and start afresh with a new cabinet and a new mandate with new faces and for those who’ve not been wipe up by the Political tsunami will know he’s here to stay and don’t foul around with the boss. The new cabinet that is yet to be announce be better ready to do a good job – serve the people for they are the ones that put you there.
An old chinese saying – Slaughter the chicken to frighten the monkey.
But anyway I think Pak Lah never aspected it to lose that badly. It’s frightening. It’s a blessing in disguise. And for that Pak Lah should THANK THE RAKYAT for making it happen.

If my above guess is right than I shall salute to Pak Lah and wish him all the best.

KL Yeoh: An interesting insight, but I don’t know if this was Pak Lah’s grand scheme to undo much of TDM’s past by letting loose a grenade in his own house. Creative destruction of this sort can backfire badly. Although, I will concede the effect has been fantastic.

Uncle Samy have said he won’t go and Pak Lah have already said if need be, senatorial appointments will be made to re-enable the old guards to return to the Cabinet. Mao launched the Cultural Revolution to suppress his enemies. I don’t really think this was a revolution launched by one man. It was launched by millions of ordinary everyday people.

PAS rule is good for a change. They did not descecrate one place of worship in Kelantan. How many temples (& even malay kampongs) have BN razed in the rest of semenanjung? Bet not many know this.

PAS is very frugal in economic management – you won’t see much wastage in the dispense of public monies.

However, if you are the typical Ipoh kia, who wants to party, drink & flip heads – then there might be some pending restriction. For the average Joe – it will be a good change of life style. And if you are the get rich quick type which/who exist$ under the patronage of MCA & clansmen – then i ‘d advise you to seek shelter in Johor. The iskandar corridor there will be a haven. LOL.

Halo…I know you are a loyal PAS supporters. Just let me remind you of something. Something short and meaningful.

Respect has to be EARNED. Show us in Kedah first. Lead by example.

We Perakians and IpohYan deserve the benefit of doubt. We want concrete evidence, not just mere announcement. Want to lead us? We will see in another 5 years, alright?

I wonder if PAS supporters would accept DAP Menteri Besar in Kelatan or Kedah? Surely won’t for the first time right? DAP practice democracy, for all races and all levels. Demoncracy is accepted worldwide, especially in those superpower countries. So PAS supporters should be easier to fit in right? We will see in Perak.

  39. IpohYan says:

DEMOCRACY means you can build the largest Crystal Mosque in a round-a-bout if the people stood and agreed to it.🙂

  40. KL Yeoh says:

To make Uncle Samy a senator would be disastrous for Pak Lah. He has over stay his welcome. I think there’s a lot of capable indian professionals within the party ready to fill up those gaps. If he still insist to be one then he’s not a good politician and be respected. The person I most respect and still is, is Nelson Mandala, the former president of South Africa. He’s not crazy for power nor money, just to prove to the world for what he stand for JUSTICE & EQUALITY. You see, he knows when to quit. If I’m Samy I’ll decline all positions that being offered. I’ll be a casual adviser to the party and tell stories of great things I’ve done for the Indian Community in this country to my grandchildren and wither off when the time comes to be with The Lord.

Relax, guys. Everyone just settle down. Text is not a good medium to communicate playful banter or sarcasm. It is easy to be misread, which I think someone did.

I don’t see the need to start pitch battles here over nothing. We’re all on the same side (I guess), wanting more transparency and better governance. Abusing each other like this is only playing into the hands of people who want to see the status quo remain. I suggest everyone reread the messages and then realise that there’s been a huge misunderstanding (from what I can see-lah!).

I wonder how the BR even won so many seats when it’s like this between their supporters.

Well..sorry to everyone for the fiery exchanges but this is really a good proof for Perakians that we are not ready to accept PAS, just yet.

Kedah & Kelantan and maybe Terengganu(one of these days) is where you guys from PAS hang on to. For the time being, sorry, not in Perak.

  47. IpohYan says:

wise people dont bother to waste their time on endless arguments. y say things that will split us-PAS vs DAP,?i think we better stop talking about sensitive issue, cos these are all BN motives to break us(BA).y bother about small2 matter, when we have BIG matter to settle. We supporters have to stand strong for BA, and not letting BN propaganda contaminate our minds.PAS will not win without DAP and vise versa. We all need each other to fight BN and end corruption, so set aside our differences, for a better future of malaysia.

  49. goldenscreen says:

Aiyoyo small kids stop fighting already lar. Just won one battle and you all act as if you already won the war. This is like taking 1 step forward and 2 steps back. Really stupid. I must admit sometimes cannot really understand certain extremist DAP supporters – langsung no flexibility and compromise, how to govern?

Even before the new Perak government is formed, sudah banyak complain. Dei, please act like the government lar not the opposition cos DAP is part of the Barisan Rakyat government and not just pihak pembangkang. Already I have receive sms-es from certain extremist Christians demanding that DAP’s Ngeh (a Christian) be made MB. They even say that PAS objected violently. We voted you in so that the majority cannot impose their views on the minority. Conversely the minority must also refrain themselves from imposing their views on the majority. Understand?

  50. DAP SUPPORTER says:

Ok guys, let’s stop it… i think what nasuha sais is true… there are definitely BN motives trying to break us and cause misunderstandings amongst us, the supporters of DAP-PKR-PAS. I strongly believe that if there is any hooliganism, it most probably be started by the BN people….

Anyway, I am one of the many Malaysians who feel so happy for the DAP-PKR-PAS victory in 5 states… I was so amazed by the political tsunami that I almost shed tears on Saturday night when I found out Penang fell to the opposition… In fact I was jumping for joy when I found out that many high profile ministers, BN politicians, and BN strongholds lost in the election… The feeling was – UNIMAGINABLE!!!

Its about time that we teach these ARROGANT BN politicians the meaning of humble, racial sensitive and respect for the people. We must prove to them that we made the right choice by voting them out… Many incidences have happened in the past 1 year that had made us, the PEOPLE angry with BN…. BN deserve it!!!

I would like to convey my heartfelt CONGRATULATIONS to the DAP-PKR-PAS coalition, and especially to Lim Guan Eng, the newly appointed CM of Penang! I hope the DAP-PKR-PAS coalition will be able to perform and do the job well in all the 5 states & prove to us, the PEOPLE that we have made the right choice.

Congrats to all who made the change, who wants change and welcome the change. I am a Malaysian (KL) working in Singapore. I like Penang a lot especially in my young days when things were much rustic. With the uncontrolled development, Penang has lost some of its charms. Its time to rectify that. I can see the similarity of Singapore and Penang. With good governance and some creativity, you can turn Penang to the next Singapore that decided the change long ago. The port, the historical sites, manufacturing hub, the beaches, the launch pad to Langkawi, Indonesia and Thailand, the food, the culture and the people…. you will survive! Then you have your own currency, The Penang Dollar (PGD) with exchange rate against the RM at 2.20 for PGD 1.00🙂 Once you cross the Penang causeway you be 2.2x richer!

“The powerful upsurge in oil prices shows little signs of abating,” wrote Barclays Capital analysts.

  57. Fasthand says:

40 years on, there comes another bigger opportunity. PKR-DAP-PAS has merely cleared the less difficult part. The hard part now begins with a 4-year clock ticking. Let cool heads prevail, think out of the box which we had been forced in for a long time. Banish any trace of chauvinism from the mind. Stop debating religions – all religions preach us to be good. We say our prayers in different ways and yet these prayers carry good intentions. So why waste time fussing over religions? Instead, let’s spend more time working together for the common good.
This may be a new era, but the pitfalls are just as treacherous. The excesses of previous regime cannot be cleared overnight. We may not enjoy the fruits of our sacrifices, but at least we can create a better environment for our next generation, an environment free of distrust and petty squabbling. An environment in which the economic cake can grow bigger and faster and equally shared by all.
It can be done. We have come this far, didn’t we?

Glen, you are a turd! Bodily excrement and all rolled into one.

  61. Malaysian says:

“U talk about cronysm in BN, what about the Dynasty in the making of Kit Sian family, Karpal’s family, Anwar family….Don’t tell me that Guan Eng has no appettite for money…better ask him to declare his account now…so u can check 4 years from now…how fat his account will be…”

I agree that it’s not a healthy development and I would like to see other leaders appearing in DAP but to say that Guan Eng is in it for the money is a bit ludicrous. He could have gone down the Lee Lam Thye route anytime and become a Tan Sri with multiple directorships from GLCs if money was his main concern. I have utmost respect for people who forego a good life to struggle for what they believe in. While I don’t believe in PAS’s ideology, I respect them for their struggles. Same goes for DAP. I’m not sure if it’s something I could do right now.

And if you had read Susan’s post, you’d have seen this, “Guan Eng/DAP also promised a Freedom of Information Act and added that assets of officials will be declared soon.”

  62. Tarzen says:

Aiya! All the potickians arel the same, whether outgoing or incoming! In the beginning it’s all music to the years. But after awhile it’s all sama2.

So be prepared to dump this incoming government come next GE, else the rakyat are just suckers.

Hey! You might say anything but we have had all the precedents already! Mahathir, Ling Liong Sik, Ong Kah Ting, Lim Chong Eu, Tan Siew Sin, Pak KampongLah, Koh Tsu Koon, Mao Tze Dong, George Bush, Nixon, Stalin, Adolf Hitler …… the list is endless. Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely. They all said the same thing, but after one or two years, they became crooked……

Has LGE set 2 terms for his CM post? How long is he going to stay as the CM? If there is no democracy in DAP, do you think there will be democracy in Penang State? Wake up lah, Penangites, use your cognitive apparatus to study the greed of human beings who never can resist the temptation of evils.

Even a sanctimonious Islamic Iman like Pak KanpongLah also can submit to Devil, what’s more to a sectarian hot-blood like LGE!

Boot the incumbent come next GE if we all want real democracy!

  63. nasuha says:

well,at least BN was proven corrupted.we should give BR a chance to prove what they are really made of. we have no choice pun anyway, its either we let BN keep on robbing us inbroad daylight, or give trust to BR for a transparent, free of corruption malaysia- i guess the second choice is better. the BR have sacrificed a lot for this fights, like what Malaysian said, they do deserve respect for their courage, having to be detained by ISA etc.We all talked so much n question their credibility, when we dont even dare to fight with BN openly. Anonymous blogger only..

    {{{{ Aiya! All the potickians arel the same, whether outgoing or incoming! In the beginning it’s all music to the years. But after awhile it’s all sama2. }}}

they are not the same lahhh
some people work & suffer most of the time. Some people go to ISA/jail for speaking up for the rights of 16 yrs old who got raped by their own kind. Did you see their own coming to help her..? no.

Some other politicians spend 12 hours a day – not working for the rakyat – but lining their own pockets. This have been PROVEN. For donkey years.

Now these people are probably PANICKing because oooops – they can’t do it anymore. The $ train has suddenly stopped. Can they get use to it? Probably not.

Do you think these people are going to re-examine why they lost the elction & bend to the will of the people. What do you think? hahaha
Do you think the little Napoleons will try to reflect and self-realise? I think not. They will be using all means & devices to re-start the moolah $ train.

Good has never triumph over evil but who saiz you can’t try. LOL.

God have mercy on our souls.

BN (& mca – more recently, responsible for that 4 billion rm white elephant in port klang) has been a case of bad rubbish for too long. time to give someelse a chance. stuff up for make good – at least give some one else a go at it.

Jongos, Singapore started with nothing. Sold Christmas Island to Australia and where are they now? Its all being optimistic and having a dream. Its people like you who wants the NEP that cripple your brain from dreaming. I trust half the time you log on you be surfing porn and jerking off on your pc. Go use your brain (if you still have one) and think of ways you can help improve malaysia so that at least you can attract THE smart talent here to to go back to the racist country. Btw, your cant lower oil price but if you are smart, you can get our country oil exporter to give back some of the profits to the rakyat that they are making from selling high grade oil in the market at such levels. Have you ever wonder why they never disclose their profit (apart from not publicly listed)? Your are being screwed…..

    OOii Rock,

Sabarrrr. tak baik buat macam tu. Cina & India pun manusia juga, tak semau macam Glenn. Gua pun geram jugak. Celaka punya Glenn.
    MATI LAGI BAIK.

  74. Rock says:

Ingat Semua. DAP dan PKR memainkan isu-isu perkauman lebih dahulu. Jangan bermain dengan api. DAP (Mostly chinese & indians) said tha we should work as one and speak as one. itu semu pembohong. Ramai orang cina dan india nak cakap bahasa kebangsaan-bahasa melayu pun tak reti. Hanya orang melayu sahaja nak integrasi tapi kaun cina dan india tak mau. Kerajaan perkenalkan sekolah wawasan-untuk integrasi-tapi orang cina dan india nak kekalkan sekolah jenis kebangsaan. So dimana rasional nya. Orang cina nak minta orang melayu hapuskan hak2 istimewa tapi orang cina dan orang india tak nak hapuskan identiti perkauman. Ingat orang cina dan orang india- jangan bermain dengan API.

Orang cina cakap-kami nak ternak babi- ingat orang islam tak mau babi. Mana rasionalnya? Orang india nak bina kuil-tapi bina di merata-rata tempat tanpa mengira seisitiviti islam. Ingat mana rasional nya?
Ketegangan sedang memuncak-jangan mencabar orang melayu!!!

Semua bercakap pasal kroni- ingat AZIZAH dan IZZAH tu kroni ANWAR, Guang Eng tu kroni Kit Siang dan Gobing Singh tu kroni Karpal Singh.. Ingat Jangan bermain dengan API. Ramai orang melayu yang sanggup mati!!!

  75. Rock says:

Cukuplah orang melayu kehilangan Singapura. Sekarang ni Pulau Pinang dan Perak diambang pergaduhan. Jangan ingat suara yang banyak bercakap tu kuat- suara yang diam tu lagi kuat. Jangan ingat orang melayu tak sensitif pada cabaran Hak-hak ketuanan melayu. Ingat-jangan bermain dengan api. Apa salah hishamuddin memegang keris-orang melayu tak pernah pertikaikan orang cina pasal tarian singa atau orang india bawa kavadi. Ingat jangan bermain dengan API!!!!

  76. COOL says:

alahai Rock…hang lagi! Cukup la wei.

  77. Feroz Merican says:

“Ramai orang melayu yang sanggup mati..”.
Rock why don’t you start yourself, don’t speak
for other Malays. If you want to mengamok, go
ahead, take a parang, go out yourself, don’t sit
in front of a PC and act tough. Ask your Mummy
for bus money first, because obviously you don’t
own a car. Rock you are a second class Melayu
and a third class Malaysian. I bet you don’t even
have a license to ride a kap chai, small boy.

  78. Shida says:

Rock & Glenn ni mcam sekapal jerrr…

  79. Sonny G says:

I agree with all who have chastised Glenn and Rock. One is racist and the other is both racist and shallow.

I’m Chinese and I love the Malays, the Indians, Sabahans and Sarawakians too. I grew up speaking Malay – my mother tongue. Let’s not allow people like Glenn and Rock destroy this beloved country of ours.

Feroz Merican, you’re a great guy. A man after my heart. We need people like you to be the Prime Minister of Malaysia. And COOL, you’re cool.
