Malaysiakini, Malaysiavotes, Malaysian Insider … ? The SUN, criticised for being a BN machinery beat them all to it: an Interview with Elizabeth Wong, our favourite MP wannabe. The 3Ms above all say or imply they want to give those sidelined by the mainstream media some coverage in this 12th GE, but their performance are indeed lacking as they all fall back snugly into the usual, safe, existing power structure …

It’s important to interview Eli Wong, as she is popularly known, because she is a WOMAN, she is an established human rights activist – known for speaking up about abuses – locally as well as internationally. She’s also an experience campaigner as the SUN puts it. She is what most young people – women or men – aspire to be, for they want to see a better world, and how to contribute to it.

And I don’t mean this for Eli only, but for other like-minded candidates.

But what do we see in the media – alternative or otherwise? Same old stories, same old faces. Can you blame people for thinking that Malaysians are ‘idea-less’ people? But I guess, those same old stories and same old faces bring in the hits as well as USDs (or RM). I indeed, for most, that is what makes the world go round…

For Eli’s interview

Bukit Lanjan debutante a seasoned campaigner
PETALING JAYA (March 2, 2008): Human rights and social activist Elizabeth Wong Keat Ping had been a campaigner for opposition parties in the past three general elections and five by-elections.

This time around, she is making her electoral debut as a Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) candidate for the Bukit Lanjan state seat.

“It took me 24 hours to accept the fact that I am now a candidate,” she said in jest in an interview with theSun in Kampung Kayu Ara yesterday.

“As a candidate, people want to know about you. Suddenly my life is very public. The whole country will know how old I am now,” quipped Wong, who will turn 38 a day after the polling day on March 8.

The former secretary-general of the National Human Rights Society (Hakam) and a member of Suaram, she said being an election candidate is just a step for her to help the people after being in NGOs in the past 15 years.

“I want to be part of the broader movement and social activism as the real change comes from power,” said Wong, who is also Wanita PKR information chief.
She said the state issues in Selangor are the unexplored goldmine for social activists to get involved.

“For example, a developer tried to cheat the poor by refusing to pay them late delivery compensation,” she said, referring to the Seri Ara apartment residents whom she has just met.

Wong said the state assembly has a lot of power over the people’s life but unfortunately there was not enough opposition voice.

“We have to compel the state government and private sector to react fairly to the people. But we can only do it with the people’s support,” she said.

On her opponent incumbent Datin Paduka Yong Dai Ying (BN-Gerakan), Wong said Selangor needs a stronger opposition voice to raise unjust and unfair issues. “The difference between us is that she is a member of the ruling coalition. So it’s difficult for her to go the extra mile to really fight for the people.”

“There is not much green-lung left in the area and over development had caused many other problems like traffic congestion,” she said.

On her campaign strategy, Wong said she has set up her campaign website (http://www.elizabethwong.org) to woo voters.

Wong’s views on:
> The Internal Security Act (ISA) and Rights to freedom of information and press freedom.
My track record shows that I am against the ISA and for the press freedom and rights to freedom of information. The Printing Presses and Publications Act must be abolished to allow the bread and butter as well as crime issues to be highlighted by the media.
> Religious freedom
I am for the freedom to practise one’s religion. This is where the state and local government come in. Religion is under the state’s jurisdiction so those who are unhappy with religious issues should bring it up in the state assembly.
> Demonstration
I am for the freedom of assembly. It is a form for the people to voice up their grievances such as Hindraf who feel they were discriminated. Unfortunately, the demonstration or protest has been painted very badly by the government.
> Crime rate
Bukit Lanjan is an area with most gated communities as crime is a serious problem here. More policemen should be deployed to be on the street instead of doing administrative work.

JUST TWO QUESTION FOR JUDGE ZAINON BINTI MOHD. ALI
    & MR DAVID HOH

I have just responded to the TRIVIA & RAMBLINGS of the fevered mind of Mr David Hoh my wife’s counsel & solicitor. I have written a lot that charged Judge Zainon binti Mohd. Ali with criminal behaviour and with aiding & abetting the 3 criminals Stephen Lim Cheng Ban, Wong Kem Chen & Kwong Sea Yoon.

In fact having written volumes on this subject, THE WHOLE STORY CAN BE SUMMED UP IN LAW BY JUST 2 QUESTIONS (1) For Judge Zainon binti Mohd. Ali, and (2)A 2nd question for Mr David Hoh.

(1)QUESTION FOR JUDGE ZAINON BINTI MOHD. ALI :

DID YOU NOT APPROVE 2 CONFLICTING APPLICATIONS TO THE RESPONDENTS (A)1ST APPROVED THEIR APPLICATION FOR SECURITY FOR COSTS; AND UPON ENFORCEMENT OF SAID ORDER FOR SECURITY FOR COSTS, YOU PROCEEDED FURTHER TO APPROVE TO RESPONDENTS AN ORDER FOR STRIKING OUT PETITION FOR ALLEGEDLY SHOWING NO CAUSE OF ACTION. You & respondents had ENFORCED THEIR SECURITY FOR COSTS BUT REFUSED TO ALLOW PETITIONER TO PROCEED TO TRIAL AS REQUIRED BY THE LAW OF CIVIL PROCEDURE.

(2)QUESTION FOR Mr david hoh :

DID YOU NOT FAIL OR MORE LIKELY WITH HELD FILING A RESPONSE/DEFENSE TO DISMISS STEPHEN LIM CHENG BAN’S nonsensical application to strike out said petition after HAVING ENFORCED RESPONDENTS’ ORDER FOR SECURITY FOR COSTS. No trial means no costs and security for costs means that petitioner’s money is set aside by the order for security for costs to FUCKING PAY FOR THE TRIAL IN CASE PETITIONER LOSE HER CASE.

It is that fucking simple and this Malaysian Federal Court Judge Zainon binti Mohd. Ali FUCKING APPROVED THE FUCKING ORDER FOR STRIKING OUT PETITION FOR SHOWING NO CAUSE OF ACTION. Is this not COMICAL, a fucking MALAYSIAN FEDERAL COURT JUDGE DOES NOT KNOW THE LAW.

Why has David Hoh (counsel for my wife) taken upon himself to DEFEND Judge Zainon binti Mohd. Ali ? He should be defending my wife ! I honestly can tell you why. Judge Zainon binti Mohd. Ali IS NOT FUCKING FLUENT IN ENGLISH. She fucking cannot write and speak ENGLISH, therefore she gets David to defend her in a public forum.

Let it be known that Judge Dato Zainon binti Mohd. Ali is a serving Federal Court Judge of Malaysia; and I say it with absolute confidence that Judge Zainon binti Mohd. Ali is an illiterate and I have called her on many times & at many public Bloggsites and I have written on many occasions with copy of letters to all & sundry that Judge Zainon Binti Mohd. Ali acted in a criminal manner and committed several criminal offences while she acted as the presiding judge of my wife’s case.

It is fucking disgraceful that Mr David Hoh had to ambush me in his letter printed in the Malaysian Today website. I always send a copy of any letter that I write to anyone and every letter that I posted on my BLOGG was received by the person that I write about; that is to allow the person to reply; but David Hoh wrote to Malaysian Today on the 1st of July but he did not in any way make it known to me of his letter. Therefore, I did not get the opportunity to reply until yesterday when I checked my achieve on GOOGLE.COM 4 fucking months ! David you are a fucking coward and a chicken shit. Anyway, he bloggs on the Malaysia Today website and I cannot get access to that website because I cannot afford to subscribe to Malaysia Today.

However, to be fair David need to publish on a website that I can get to reply. He can go to my blogg, the CICAK, http://malay-sia.blogspot.com/2007/12/malaysia-is-3rd-rate-3rd-world.html, AND SEVERAL OTHER WEBSITES. David it is only decent to want a response from the person you write about.

PS. It is quite for you to inform Judge Zainon binti Mohd. Ali that I had called her a CRIMINAL. The phone No for A-G is 388889362 and the Phone No. for Chief Judge Malaya is 38888 4522

So, I told him about Eli and her backgrounds.
All about the Barisan Rakyat and so on.
I hope he will open his eyes and mind and get all his family members to vote for Eli and the Barisan Rakyat.

Reading the mainstream media is disgusting.Feel like puking.OKT is a weakling and is a disgrace to chinese race.Sami Toddy Taktahumalu is a disgrace to malaysians.Big ears with hollow brains talk cock all the time.

  9. freedom says:

I hope she wins and help clean up the Parliament which BN/Umno puppets cannot do.
As an experienced human rights activist she should be given that opportunity to speak out in Parliament about human rights issues.
Great to have such a person on board.

  10. Damocles says:

The situation looks so bad for the BN that the EC has just canceled its intention to use indelible ink during the election although they had bought RM2 million worth of this ink.
Looks like they’re going to cheat big time!

  11. TH Gan says:

It’s true that the English newspapers (Star and NST) are not covering the opposition candidates. But to be fair to the Chinese main stream media, although they are still covering the BN candidates more, they have given the opposition candidates fair coverage too. So far, Sin Chew Jit Poh has already interviewed most of the new DAP and PKR candidates like Eli, Hannah, Tony, etc. Of course, the paper had also vovered the new MCA and Gerakan candidates. Besides, it has also reported on the opposition ceramahs. For those who can read Chinese, it is a wiser choice than reading the Stars or the NST (not only during the election, but on normal days too.)
