I wish her “All the best and get well soon”.
We’ve now lost another potential woman candidate – Zaitun Kasim. Although news reports cited poor health, I believe there are other reasons as well for her departure from the General Elections this time.
For example, it was highly speculated that Toni, as she is better known, was to contest in Petaling Jaya Selatan in a three-corner fight against Parti Keadilan Rakyat and MCA. Why should that happen at all?
The Women’s Candidacy Initiative has supported the Opposition cause before, even allowing their candidate, Toni again, to contest under the DAP banner in 1999.
Why is it not possible for Toni to contest this time around under the PKR banner? Is it political manouvering again? PKR won’t give way to an Independent candidates like Toni?Or it could be that PKR has their own candidate, which is why there was speculation of a three corner fight? Sigh…don’t I know it all too well…
I don’t think that WCI, under the any circumtances, would want to put up their candidate in a three corner fight. And so, Toni bows out…
How many more woman candidate will we lose due to party politicking?
