HINDRAF did not start this, says my learned friend Farish Noor (theothermalaysia). And while we banter over who is more racist than the other, Abdullah Ahmad Badawi’s regime is cracking down on Hindraf leaders (malaysiakini).

“So while we may disagree with the tone and tenor of Hindraf’s communitarian political-speak, let us not miss the wood for the trees. Hindraf did not invent racialised communitarian politics in Malaysia, it was the component of the Barisan Nasional parties that did, and continue to do so.

“Hindraf did not begin a new trend of race and religious-based political association and collectivism in Malaysia: it was the older race and religious-based parties and movements like UMNO, PAS and ABIM that did, and continue to do so.

“Hindraf did not invent the language of racial and religious identification in Malaysia, for these terms were already hoisted on them and the minority communities of Malaysia by the state, the mainstream media and the conservative reactionary forces in this country long ago. It was the politicians, political analysts, media commentators and communitarian activists who referred, for instance, to the Hindu temples of Malaysia as ‘Indian temples’; and who continue to refer to Malaysians of South Asian origin as ‘Indians’ or the ‘Indian community’.

“For the information of all and sundry, those temples that were bulldozed were not ‘Indian temples’ but Malaysian temples, built on Malaysian soil, frequented by Malaysians, paid for by Malaysians and they were part of the Malaysian landscape. There are no ‘Indian Temples’ in Malaysia- Indian temples exist in India and if you don’t believe me then fly to India and check them out yourself. Likewise the only ‘Indians’ in Malaysia are the tourists, expats and workers who come from India and happen to be Indian nationals bearing Indian passports. Those Hindus who marched in the streets of Kuala Lumpur on Sunday happen to be Malaysians like you.

“For the sake of the Hindu Malaysians, and all other minority communities in this country, one hopes that such simple ground rules and facts would be borne in mind as we try our hardest to win back this country for all of us, the Malaysian people themselves. The gallery of amateurs who make up today’s government may bemoan the fact that significant sections of the Malaysian public have lost all confidence and trust in the system that they have helped to create, but no amount of spin can alter the fact that the Hindraf demo was a symptom of what has gone wrong in this country.

“If Hindraf is to be accused of communitarianism and exclusivism in its politics, then we needonly to look at the mould from which it emerged: a cauldron of racialised, divisive and exclusive politics that clearly bears the made-in-Malaysia stamp, a symptom of the ills of our times and the failure of the state”.

“Malaysian Ministers must get rid of the “frog in coconut shell” mentality and learn the first basic rule of global society – we must accept and withstand international scrutiny of national policies in the same way Malaysian leaders castigate injustices of other countries like the Palestinian and Iraq issues.

Only yesterday, the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi spoke up for the Palestinians and criticized oppressive Israeli policies – and rightly so. Similarly, with the frequent Malaysian government criticisms of United States policy in Iraq.

However, Malaysian leaders cannot demand double-standards in international society where they exercise the right to criticize unfair policies of foreign governments like the hot-button Palestinian and Iraq issues and yet claim the privilege of being spared from international scrutiny by foreign governments and leaders on Malaysian events and developments…” u/q

A true Malaysian wants a Malaysian society that respects and tolerates the existance of diverse culture and tradition. So what is wrong having a mosque, tokong cina, kuil and churches.
The Tamils have a proverb that says don’t live in a place that has no temple. So you can understand their desire to build houses of worship. The town counsil may demolish newly built house of worship. But human rights dictates that early warning be given. But to demolish an old temple is not Malaysian way of life. Maybe the treatment given to ‘zakaria palace’ i.e. hefty fine and the DUN could have legally given the land to the old temple.
There are many urgent and basic things to be done by the authorities such as providing drinkable clean paip water to the public. (Ask the Port Dickson folks) Temple demolition has occured since the 1960’s. So someone along the bound to retaliate. Let us practice what we preach. Don’t make this a problem among races. Let it remain Hindraf’s and the authority’s problem.

Its high time we look at the MIC and MCA spineless leaders who are yes manto the Master…u know who and repeat what ever is preached to them like brainless parrots(oops thats insulting the parrot. They are far smarter).
Now the boss suggests a hot line for Malaysian Indian…yes sir Mr.Samy goes. How shameful .After almost 30 yrs in power …call himself leader of Indians he still does not know whats thir problems. Look back at your 6 monthly reports to the PM . Show us what it contains? What action has been taken by the PM. Why waste paper submitting more. Just cut and paste and send it to the PM.

I suggest Malaysia kini attend the annual meeting of MIC and take videos of what happens there. How gangsters are used to remove anyone questioning or talking sensibly. He made sure no one with brains is around him. So no one is even groomed for next leadership. He wants to be there or might install him beloved son to take over…..Phew very sorry for the Indians. U obviously sound like our leaders..Come on open your eyes. Stop taliking rubbish be brave and demand whats been robbed out of u. In the UK one man was wrongly shot by the police during the London underground bombing (7/11) . He was a Brazilian illegal immigrant. Yet there was a enquiry. The police admitted. Do u know how many youths especially Indian are killed in detention and also based on mere suspicion. Any enquiry??? have you heard of the kampung medan incident? Why till today no one not ven human rights body cannot enquire? Why so many Indian were killed and maimed even after the police was put there ? If the authoroties were transparent the subject of ‘mini gencide’ would not be raised. Why fear if you are right? Just tell the truth then we will know what happened.
Its been long time since we heard anything neutral or truthful from the local news papers. They all sing the tunes of the politicians .If not they will lose their gaji. Like a true Malaysian don’t u want to see Malaysia to be like other democtratic countires? We select leaders. They should fear us.Not the reverse.
So stop talking rubbish and take a stand. Having tallest buildings and first world infrastructure doesn’t make a nation tall. Its how the moral priciples , justice other important issues are dealt with.

Malaysia is rich with lot of right thinking people who like liberty and freedom. I like your postings.

Having said that, you should know your enemies. The draw back of free thinkers is that you are good at your heart and often fails to understand your enemies and their tactics. I am an Indian citizen but I have a global perspective on the issue. I know who is behind HINDRAF now and how they are going to damage Malaysia’s social fabric.

Currently, the HINDRAF leaders are inspired or remotely controlled by India’s Hindu militant group, RSS. Their office in Jandewalan Street of Delhi is a notorious epic centre of hindu extremism in India.

The traces of their criminal saga didn’t end up with crime of the millennium, the killing of Mahathma Gandhi.

RSS is the inspirational force behind most of communal riots through out India which regularly target Minorities or other socially excluded hindu communities.

To Tamil Hindus, this leadership will gift more misery than you can imagine. In an age were conflicts are solved more peacefully, the militant approach inspired by Hindutva will be disastrous.

Considering the RSS factor, I would say Malaysian police is right in its argument about HINDRAF’s association with global terrorism. Do you know why?

An American research centre has placed India’s ultra-nationalist Rashtrya wayamsewak Sangh (RSS) on its terrorist list. The East Virginia-based Terrorism Research Center (TRC) is closely connected to the American government and many of its directors and researchers have closely worked with US administrations and have taken part in research and planning for the US administration.

In the list of in India, the TRC has placed RSS under no. 21. It appeared on 9 September 2004 on the group’s website under the caption “Known Terrorist Groups Operating in India“.

RSS, was banned a couple of times in India and still rated as a Hindu extremist organization in many states. But they have enormous power in judiciary, defence and civil service. I mean all characters belongs to a fascist movement. They admire Hitler than Indian constitution.

For God’s sake don’t trust me, trace the movements of HINDRAF leaders through out India. Their actions should be a major concern to Indian immigrants around the world.

The blog has to say more about it.

so they should be thankful to god….not like in india where there are many poor people living with out proper food and homeless. i think this HINDRAF should concentrate on helping them insted of doing what they are doing now..

We are not beggers in Malaysia to get the crumbs that fall from the table. Many of us were born here and our parents and grandparents have shed blood to build Malaysia just like the Malays who might have come earlier. That does not entitle them to rob others off their entitlement. If not for the plantation workers those days, Malaysia would be nothing today. Soon the oil will run out, the intellectuals migrating and we will see the fun.

Gandhiji’s thoughts in his 1940 ‘open letter’ to the British:

“I want you to lay down the arms you have as being useless for saving you or humanity. You will invite Herr Hitler and Signor Mussolini to take what they want of the countries you call your possessions. Let them take possession of your beautiful island with your many beautiful buildings… If these gentlemen choose to occupy your homes, you will vacate them. If they do not give you free passage out, you will allow yourself, man, woman and child to be slaughtered… I am telling His Excellency the Viceroy that my services are at the disposal of His Majesty’s government, should they consider them of any practical use in enhancing my appeal.” (From Stanley Wolpert’s Jinnah of Pakistan.)

Sri Aurobindo’s reaction when he heard this, as recorded in his book India’s Rebirth: “He must be a little cracked.”

  26. Angeldewi says:

It’s very clear that the peaceful demo by hindraf did make the govt a bit shaken. They start to show concern on Indian people charity. But remember, are they doing it because the election is just around the corner? Is the govt or so call BN are really interested with the Indian people who clearly been absued? The answer is surely no. NOW, please start to do some forward thinking. What going to happen to Indians after the general election. Remember, doesn’t matter who comes as rulling party, the faith of Indians going to be the same. Do you think that the new government going to give ‘taraf bumiputra’ to indians, NO WAY. Sure chinease are going to get burst. Or are they going to take off the bumiputra status from malays and make everybody equal. NO WAY TOO.
So, fellow Indians, Pls wake up, YOU CAN’T DO ANYTHING. What you do also no uselah. This never will be a fair country for us. We got no choice, take it and live with it. You got family and I got family too. What we can do is, get the hell out from here. Or seek somebody outsider like UK or USA to interior to solve our problem. Ask UN for help and write to the secretary. Make trouble, give more and more trouble. Let the foreign power give the stress to our govt. TO DO THIS, WE NEED LEADERS FROM HINDRAF. SO FAR, I SEE ONLY THEY CAN DO THIS.

Don’t get too carried away please…The recent event of Hindraf’s 2nd rally is bugging me…No, seriously. Did you really have to go into all the troubles just to hand over a bunch of flowers to the Prime Minister?

I’m not going against ur right to pariticipate in any movement, or even ur right to have the freedom of speech. No, not at all. I truly understand ur grievances of this and that. It’s fine with me…It’s just that there are better ways to get ur voice heard. So many other ways. And certainly not by street protesting and rally.

Anyway, talking about grievances, mind you every race has its own grievances. Go figure out the statistics, there are still hardcore poor Malays living in trailers you get to see at the construction sites in Sabah, S’wak, Kelantan & Terengganu. In case you don’t believe the statistic figures saying they’re nt reliable, go conduct ur own study.

And when you meet these hardcore poor Malays, you’ll be surprised how patient they can be when they’re still poor while at the same time seeing their rich Indian counterparts spending their money away in night clubs…And you’ll be more surprised when these poor Malays don’t go out street protesting and participating in rallies despite being poor generation after generation….Should we (the more fortunate Malays) hold up a street rally on behalf of these ppl? I don’t know…

I have an Indian friend (same University, same batch) happened to be a supporter of Hindraf movement and he participated in the so-called rally demanding equal rights for the Indian community…Mind you, he is currently studying under the sponsorship of Pertronas (conditional loan) and guaranteed a job in the company after graduating (if he passed the interview of course) and still going against the gov’t? (gov’t is the largest stakeholder of Petronas FYI) I just couldn’t undertsnd this kind of person… He has this blog which is veeeery famous (at least to the anti-gov’t bloggers) where he recorded all the very little details of his effort fighting for the Indians…Good effort frm him…But I just think he should be a lil bit grateful…

Anyway, everyone’s entitled to his/her own opinion…Just don’t get too carried away by the sentiments okay?

  29. PURE HUMAN says:

Malaysia is really a very bad goverment now day with just a fucker leader who is racist and sellfish.
you may not believe this but this is just some examples…

    1. the first is politics wise, you see the true is the is so many racist in malaysia who want their race only go forward, so as the malays is majority, so racist in this group combine and form a goverment which is only for their group. how many umno leader want to see other race member as their leader??? why the prime minister is only malay?? why cant an chinese, indian , iban, najau, or dayak became a prime minester or deputy prime minester. this politician is a XXXX behind their mask.
you may ask there is MIC, or MCa but the truth is the leader of this party is sellfish that they only care their pocket full and not about their race.for example is our indian comuniti god samy vellu who dont want to step dowm from mic leader even he lost in general election. this maniac is just a poppet to some racist leader. after poor perfomence in general election, some racist just say “melayu need to work together and in front of umno building some racist just shout hidup umno, hidup melayu, how can they shout hidup melayu as only they are the goverment. i never see in mic or mca gathering people shouting hidup indian or hidup cina.

    3. malaysia is consist of many race with different percantage of amount but all are malaysian but there is no equel right in malaysia to everbody.. why???

3.for example let me start from eduction wise, the goverment say bumiputra(malays) is far behind in education so they are helping but the truth is discrimination of other race.. is does not matter if you are poor you cannot study, it all in your heart and courage to sucess. goverment can help by giving free book, free tiution, or even prepare transport or giving biasiswa and our goverment is doing all this to malay. there is Gabungan pelajar Melayu semanjung(GPMS) to do this all for malays. but what is discrimination of other race is and make most student angry is a program that know matriculation. after spm there is two option if you want to enter malaysian university one is stpm or matriculation but the question is why there is two option when the purpose is same?? the answer is simple..”to discriminate other race and help bumiputra” u see for matriculation, 90 percent is for malay and 10 percent is for non-malay. how can goverment do this after helping so much to malay they even limit the entry for other race for matriculation.
stpm against matriculation, of course stpm is more difficult and you have to sacrifece so much time to score in stpm. most of time the media do not highlight the result of matriculation, why??? because they dont want other race know about the result as matriculation is so easy and the soalan is often leak.
So finally after stpm and matriculation result is obtained, they all will apply to university and here also our bastard goverment still try to discriminate other race. matriculation student surely will get place in course they asked although their exam is so easy. but what happen is all stpm student need to suffer because so racist goverment that demanding course place will not given to stpm student. HOW FAIR IS GOVERMENT WHEN EVEN A 5A STUDENT IN STPM STUDENT CANT GET A PLACE TO DO MEDICINE IN LOCAL UNIVERSITY????? the reason is the place is limited. the question is “are all the limited medicine place is filled by 5a student????. the answer is no of course!!!!

so here we see our goverment is so discrimination even in front of eye so how much behind our eye??? think
WE MUST HELP THE NEEDY BUT DONT DISCRIMINATE HARD WORKING STUDENT JUST BECAUSE OF THEIR RACE!!!
WE CAN SEE THE wffect now as many non malay student doing medicine in other country.
WHY THE GOVERMENT IS NOT GIVING FULL HELP TO NON MALAY STUDENT..
if this continue, one day our country will fall and the harmony will be breaked because of racist leader.

the goverment should change their policies.

if want i can give so many example in social life and many but it is useless if people dont act…

  30. humm says:

Go on and vent out your anger. That’s all I am seeing. No sense of logic and common sense. When anger comes, all you see is distruction! Let not anger drag you to its dent. If hindraf has been wronged, it does not justify you to drag malay, chinese, and rest of malysians as unfair! Keep your objectivity. Address your issues and not cloud them further with more nuances, making it even more racial than it is. If hindraf is right, speak up. But if hindraf is wrong at certain things, don’t hide under excuses. Then you deserve to stand and be counted. If not, you are just like many you claimed to be racist!
