The moron has spoken…

Reading this kind of statement from a former infomation chief makes me sick : Radio’s freedom has negative impact on the nation, says Zam.

What has negative impact on the nation is the kind of restrictions the Government has on all kinds of media, and on its citizens, moron.

It’s the kind of policies we have, and the things politicians utter that attracts such bad impressions on the country. Not to mention sham trials and political manipulation to bring one’s enemy down.

Not freedom of any kind. It’s also the kind of threats on writers that bring negative impact and image to the country like the Home Ministry’s recent show cause letter to the Star’s P Gunasegaran on his ‘canning’ article. He really got a whipping in return!

How could a moron understand these things?

That freedom is not the problem. The problem is power in the hands of a minority and the abuse of that power that leads to all kinds of negative impact on the nation!

Are we entitled to a fair, unbiased trial?

As always, a timely press statement from ALIRAN:

Judge Mohamad Zabidin Mohd Diah did not disappoint the discerning Malaysians. They did not expect him to rule otherwise. They expected him not to recuse himself.

This is a replica of a previous judgment in Sodomy 1 when Anwar wanted .Augustine Paul to recuse himself as a judge in his case. Of course, he refused stating that he won’t be biased. That was a ridiculous decision. The judge did not understand the implications of what constitutes biasness.

Unfortunately there is this worrying perception that many of our judges do not have a proper notion of justice and fairness. They are not really troubled about the question of biasness. They don’t seem to be bothered about what impression they create in the minds of fair-minded Malaysians. They are not concerned about what impact their judgment would have on the judiciary and the public perception of our system of justice.

But the point is shouldn’t it be incumbent on a judge to recuse himself when a party to the dispute imputes that they don’t have faith in him as a fair person to sit in judgment in their case? Continue reading

M’sia pressured by US to dismiss UN Envoy?

So Najib Razak’s government has dismiss its envoy to the United Nation’s nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency’s Board of Governors for voting against a censure resolution against Iran.

Parti Rakyat Keadilan thinks that this decision is clearly a result of pressure applied on Malaysia by the US government as it steps up its efforts to isolate both politically and through economic sanction.

What do you think? Continue reading

Zunar: Is Altantuya a forbidden issue?

This press statement comes directly from the horse’s mouth:Zunar Kartunis:

1. I condemn the action by the police and officers from the Home Ministry who confiscated my book, “1 Funny Malaysia” from bookstores in Penang, Malacca, Negeri Sembilan and Kuala Lumpur recently. According to news report, the raids were carried out under Section 18 of Printing Press and Publications Act.

2. For the record, the book was in market since November last year, and most of my work in the book had been published on Malaysiakini.

3. This is my second book to be confiscated in recent months. August last year, my office in Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur was raided by eight officers from the Home Ministry and 408 copies of the inaugural issue of my cartoon magazine, Gedung Kartun (Cartoon Store) were seized.

4. On the next day, the Home Ministry officers raided the factory that printed Gedung Kartun magazine and seized 18 printing plates of the magazine.
