“may the truth save us all”

Another ‘dimwit’ minister on the loose

Liar, cheats, and a threat to national unity, says one dimwit.

Now another has joined the ranks of dimwits and says we are ‘frustrated journalists’, ‘political pundits’, and ‘anarchist websites’.

We are also “provocative, politically motivated, inaccurate and is mostly rumour floated for the interests of certain parties”.

We must be “regarded with suspicion and refer to the mainstream media for the truth”.

Honestly, I don’t know whether to laugh or shout, but coming from Zam, the Information Minister, I’d rather puke.

If we are such rumour-mongers, why be afraid of bloggers in the first place. Why such concerted effort to outcast all of us, though not all are political blogs.

I’d rather say don’t listen to Ministers or politicians for hiding the truth, for causing tension among the people with their inflammatory speeches and for shaming the nation with their unpolished remarks, causing foreigners to label us ‘Malaysia Bodoh’.

Yes, perhaps you can say mine is an anarchist website cause I have openly declared that I have no political master, and slave to no ideology, nor am I an admirer of any politician – government or opposition.

Sorry, Zam, you’d have to work harder to attract my attention. The rate you are going, more will join the ranks of hating you, than loving you.

Read what Zam has to say about bloggers here:

Information Minister Zainuddin Maidin has told domestic newspapers not to quote from Internet blogs or use them as sources of information, accusing the websites of spreading rumours, reports said today.

Information Minister Zainuddin Maidin said most websites were aimed at being provocative and were run by frustrated journalists and political pundits, the Star daily reported.

“Do not quote them because you are disgracing yourself as you are the authority. Do not give credit to such anarchist websites,” Zainuddin was quoted as saying.

Malaysia’s media is kept under tight control, while blogs have seen an increase in popularity as Malaysians take to cyberspace to discuss politics and social issues.

Blogs run by Malaysians in recent months have alleged corruption by government figures in writings that later sparked mainstream news reports.

“The information posted on the blog website may be something provocative, politically motivated, inaccurate and is mostly rumour floated for the interests of certain parties,” Zainuddin was quoted as saying by the state Bernama news agency.

The minister also called on Malaysians to regard blogs with suspicion and refer to the mainstream media for the truth, Bernama reported.

Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi earlier this year accused Malaysians of using the Internet to rumour-monger.

Two bloggers are currently being sued by the government-linked New Straits Times Press for defamation.

  1. They usually attack in packs and the stridency indicates their own lack of credibility.

“…refer to the mainstream media for the truth,…”

    ROTFLOL!

  2. Well, normally, I do trust mainstream media more than blogs, but there are certain situations where the hierarchy of credibility is turned upside down.

One such situation is when the subject matter is one where the mainstream media would gain from not reporting the truth, or has a political bias likely to lead them away from the truth. This is the case when certain US broadcasters report, or more specifically, DON’T report on the war in Iraq.

Another such situation is when the mainstream media is controlled by one strong, repressive source of authority, be it corporate or government. This was the case in Italy under Berlusconi, and, I am certain, to a much worse degree in Malaysia today. When it comes to Malaysia, I trust certain blogs, such as this one much more than the mainstream media. The comments of the information minister proves nothing, except just WHY Malaysians should turn to blogs, not mainstream media for the truth.

  3. Another subhuman breed running amok! They are letting loose those whom they can sacrifice and poor Zam does’nt know it. Susan, just pure jealousy now that they know people trust bloggers more than the mainstream. They are getting paranoid. Zam seems coked-out. I wont waste my piss, pissing on him.

  4. Maybe this another art to have no unity amongst Malaysians.
They usually like to create something from nothing.
These cow brains ministers actually have nothing to do….or is avoiding to do something useful for the people….especially in Johore.
Now they can’t be bothered….as election coming……so ther party matters come first.
This maybe is to divert our attention from Adnan.
They will throw alot of heerings and ask you to catch catch catch.
    Some more to come.

  5. Yes ler, Sungame, the printed media do contain some facts(truths) like wrt the daily share market price report – something that is hardly corruptible but this is also better obtainable online.

If the MSM here is liken to a product like an ointment on sale on the shop shelf, it’s inconceivable that one would knowingly choose one with a mandatory fly in each jar. The contamination is permanent even if the extent is not fully established. Haha.

  6. Dear Susan,

Oh God, I had written a poem (bad one – LOL) and cynical open letter, also I commented indignantly at other people’s blog – still these people want to whack the bloggers. What do I do know?

You know what, diaorang nih craving for Skim Cepat famous, as you said.

  7. KOTA BARU: Kelantan Umno Youth is considering taking legal action against PAS Youth over remarks in a weekly tabloid that Umno had “imported” 10,000 voters…

Now Susan and fellow lady bloggers can sue these ministers as well cause Umno Youth is setting the precedence!

  8. During the Iraq war, the then Information Minister of Iraq made all sort of crazy announcements, and singlehandedly turned the otherwise tragic warzone into circus.

Coincidentally, we also have a joker of that quality in the same job portfolio. Are these occupational hazards? If yes, how to explain the previous dimwit? LOL

  9. almost daily affair now with one minister after another roasting you bloggers. hmm. you bloggers must have done a great job otherwise why should they bother. may i say, many thanks to you and other responsible bloggers for keeping us informed.
just to let you know zam2. you and your co-horts are not the sole guardian of truth. there is alternative today.

  10. I say Susan…now having Two guns…what about c 4…

  11. Susan

I would like to think that such outbursts from Tengku and then Zam are indications of their fear, fear that if more people believe in blogs and if more mainstream papers were to follow up on stories in the blogs, then there will be many more exposures of the weaknesses of senior government figures and Cabinet Ministers. There will be more exposures about corruption, about how bodies like Rela behave as if they are the government, about sex scandals among high officials, etc.

It does look like the tide is going in that direction and many of them are already shivering (or leaking?) in their pants!

  12. Who is Zam? Anybody knows his background?

  13. Zam-zam-alakazam!

The more they refer to us bloggers, the more attention would be given to us. Guess the Information Minister is not really informed after all. Rather than engaging with bloggers, they have declared war with bloggers.

The minister failed to realsie that there are a huge number of blogs which are not politically motivated, people blogging about their trips, their life, their love for food and what not? And he calls himself Information Minister?

Ever noticed that the media is not specifically referring to blogs but “websites”? Duh… everything on the net is a website. Duh!

    Idiots…

  14. They more they say, the more ignorant they look lah! With so many senior figures in Malaysia putting their proverbial feet into their mouths, maybe they should hire only mutes? At least then it would be ‘All action, no talk’…

  15. I wonder where the @%^# they graduated from.. !!?

  16. These idiotic ministers are practising how to speak…under the instructions of PM…to test their skills in speaking coming elections……..lots of speeches must be made lah.
Here are the qualities and samples……but mind you…they will impress the villages and treat them as heroes…….but fortunately……..these villagers have educated children to advise them….so even half past six voters will become full time smart..not to be fooled anymore.

  17. [...] Susan can call Zam and KuNan dimwits, watch this [...]

  18. In all my life the only truth that I have learnt is that politicians are the greatest liars.
No bloggers can beat them to that position.
Little wonder it is commonly said ” Politics is the last refuge of a scoundrel”.

  19. just incredible. and he said what… they are the authority? the MSM?

  20. Same laws apply for bloggers, says BN rep

    At the Dewan Rakyat
Reports by JANE RITIKOS, FLORENCE A. SAMY AND ELIZABETH LOOI

Bloggers are bound by the same laws as writers of newspapers and journals because what is wrong in the physical world is just as wrong in the cyber world, said Datuk Markiman Kobiran (BN – Hulu Langat).

While not calling for a curb on blogs and bloggers, he said he acknowledged that they had a role to play in the society.

“But they must be responsible for what they write and say,” he said in moving a motion of thanks to the King for his royal address.

Markiman said that while the Internet was an important information tool, it was also used to send poison-pen letters or e-layang.

On phishing by cyber criminals, Markiman said not much was done in Malaysia to stop criminals from getting data through the Internet for wrong use.

He also said the Government was taking too long to pass laws on personal data protection, which existed in 90 countries.

“It is imperative that Malaysia hasten the enactment of the law,” he said, adding that it could affect efforts to make Malaysia an outsourcing country after India and China.

“The confidence of foreign investors depends on this law’s existence as outsourcing means that personal data would flow into Malaysia,” he said.

  21. “It is imperative that Malaysia hasten the enactment of the law,”

Since when has it not really rush through many diverse laws in that big building called “Parliament”?

  22. Zam. Zam Zam. Zambuk. Wasn’t there a brand of greasy kid stuff called Zam-Zam or Zambuk back when I was a mere stripling? Then there were the Brylcreem-Vaseline Wars… and now, labies and genitalmen… we’re being entertained by a wrestling bout between the Bloggers and the Blockheads. (Definition of “blockhead”?
Someone who compulsively obfuscates, prevents light from being shed in dark places, obstructs truth from being revealed, stands in the way of clear perception.) These menteri-menteri are so pathetically boring- they would be merely laughable were it not for the fact that WE are paying their fucking salaries.

  23. “..or Zambuk back ”

Yes, Antares, there was a green imported Zambuk ointment that comes in a round flat can and a respectable insect bite one that it was for it gives a cooling instant relieve compared with some other contemporary ones. It might be still around.

We can be sure there’s no fly in such ointments. They don’t pretend to be some Zam snakeoil cure-all.

  24. zam zam zam…closet communist? an staunch stalinist? ~~~~~

  25. what parliament should hasten is the freedom of information act – this allows no politicians or whatever to hide behind secrecy while they lie to the people day in and day out.

  26. And day in and day out, the MSM is in full and knowing complicity…for their daily bread, and enabling the politicians in power their ivory tower lifestyle.

  27. Now they have developed a mosquito to kill aids mosqutoes..so zambuk and all those humbugers are out-datd ointments.

  28. [...] said consists of housewives and unemployeds. I remember reading Susan Loone’s article about Zam alaka Zam. Bet he regrets all the comments he made. I think it was from there that a lot of bloggers [...]
