“Adventures of Saladin” – Made in Malaysia

Malaysia was said to have spent more than RM20Million for this 6-minute project.

The Animated Series has won the Best Technology category at the Seoul International Cartoon and Animation Festival(SICAF) Promotions Plan competition. It was short listed along with ten other finalists . In the competition, contestants have 10 minutes to pitch their proposed TV series to an international jury of broadcasting executives before a live audience of conference attendees.

Comments, anyone?

  1. Neat but it reminds me of the battle scene in the “Romance of the Three Kingdoms” … lack originality.

    AND WHO’S PAYING FOR THIS??

  2. I was lucky to have ‘a peek’ at the original 3-d animations a couple of years back and I must say this is far better from the initial ‘pitch’ I saw which was demoralising. Thus it led me to assume the bulk of the animation is probably done in Korea and with Korea’s mature animation expertise. I could probably dig up the previous production house’s dude who was handling it.

But still RM20 mill is still way too much for a 6 minute full animation even by Korean standards.

  3. The cost for the Saladin Trailer was only a few hunderd thousand (RM) not 20 million. It was made in Malaysia, not Korea.

  4. yupe my apologise, it was made locally at Silver Ant Sdn. Bhd. in 3 months with audio effects done by ImagineX for free. You can follow-up on this ’saga’ here:

  5. hi everyone,

Teresa Kok’s effort to sought an ‘eplanation’ from MDeC:

Kudos to Silver Ant for coming up with a trailer with only ‘3 pages of script’ to work with and ImagineX for having the smarts of not having a ‘piece of the pie’ in this Bolehland project. So this begs the question:
“Where the rest of the money at?”

and do noticed RM20 Mill spent is a past-tense.

  7. [...] According to Susan’s blog,Malaysia was said to have spent a huge sum of money (a few hundred thousands?) for this 6-minute project. [...]
